AI agent training for KYC analysts in wealth management in Brazil

What KYC analysts at Brazilian wealth managers must learn to oversee AI agents: source-of-wealth drafts, held cases, LGPD and the regulators, and 90 days.

Brazilian wealth managers can give an agent the slow parts of KYC: mapping family holding structures, drafting source-of-wealth narratives and chasing missing documents. Analysts need to learn how to test those drafts, read why a case was held and record corrections. Whether a fortune's origin is credible, and whether to accept the client, stays with them.

What does a wealth KYC analyst in Brazil actually work on?

The typical file is a family, not a person. Wealth often sits in a family holding company that owns agribusiness, property and an operating firm, with shares spread across siblings, a trust-like arrangement abroad and investment accounts in two or three institutions. The analyst's job is to map that structure, identify who ultimately owns and controls it, and judge whether the story of how the money was made holds up.

Documents arrive in Portuguese and sometimes in English or Spanish for the foreign parts of the structure. Corporate records, tax returns, sale agreements for land or a business, and inheritance papers all play a part. Politically exposed persons are common in this client base, including local officials and their relatives, and their files carry enhanced checks.

Speed is the other pressure. Clients can move money into an account almost instantly through Pix, so the bank must have the due diligence done before the first transfer arrives, not after.

Which tasks can an agent take, and at what depth?

  1. Ownership mapping, depth 1. The agent reads company registry extracts and the client's documents and draws the chain from each entity to the people behind it. Registry data is signed by the registry; an organisation chart the client supplied is declared.
  2. Source-of-wealth narrative, depth 2. The agent drafts the account of how the wealth was built, citing each document. The analyst tests it against the evidence and decides whether it is credible.
  3. Requests for information, depth 2. The agent drafts the request to the client, usually sent through the relationship manager. A person sends it.
  4. Periodic review of low-risk clients, depth 3. Where nothing material has changed, the agent can complete the review within bounds the firm sets. A change in ownership, residence or PEP status is held.
  5. Rejection or exit, depth 4. Held for a person every time.

The agent's verdict names the bound that decided. A narrative held because it relied on an unverified sale agreement is a provenance problem; one held because the client type is outside the agent's certificate is a scope problem. Analysts should see the difference immediately.

What stays with the analyst?

The credibility judgement on source of wealth stays human. An agent can line up documents and spot gaps, but deciding that a fortune built from land sales in a particular region over twenty years is plausible requires context and accountability. So does approving a PEP, deciding a relationship is too risky, and concluding that something is suspicious.

Pressure from relationship managers is part of the job. They want the client onboarded, and the analyst must be able to hold the line. An agent that holds a file is helping the analyst do that; it is not an obstacle to remove. This is why KYC analysts are the real control in an AI agent deployment, and the boundaries are spelled out in what KYC analysts should never let an AI agent do.

What do analysts need to learn first?

Review comes first. Analysts must be able to take a drafted source-of-wealth narrative and check each claim against its cited document, look for what is missing, and decide. The routine is described in how KYC analysts review an AI agent's decisions.

Next is provenance. A notarised sale agreement, a registry extract and a client's own summary carry different weight, and an external claim can never settle a check on its own. Then correction: when the analyst rejects a draft, the reason is recorded so the firm can adjust the agent's brief and sources, as in teaching KYC analysts to bank corrections.

Finally, analysts should understand certification. The agent earns its depth by being replayed against the firm's own past files; its certificate lapses after 90 days, and a run that clears no depth drops it to depth 1 the same day.

Which Brazilian rules shape oversight and literacy?

Banco Central do Brasil supervises banks and other financial institutions, including the private banking arms of large groups, and expects them to govern the systems that perform controls. The CVM regulates securities and investment services, including asset managers and advisers, and its rules on knowing the client and suitability reach the wealth side of the business.

The LGPD governs the personal data in a KYC file, and the ANPD enforces it. Wealth files hold sensitive detail about families, so the agent's access should be limited to the purpose of due diligence and recorded.

Brazil's anti-money-laundering law, built on the FATF Recommendations, requires due diligence scaled to risk, enhanced measures for PEPs and reporting of suspicious transactions to the national financial intelligence unit. None of it allows the suspicion decision to be handed to software.

This is an explanation of the rules, not legal advice; confirm how they apply to you with counsel.

A 90-day plan for a Brazilian wealth KYC team

  • First month. Analysts, team leads and the heads of private banking take Foundations (about 4 hours). Relationship managers take it too, since they shape what reaches the agent. The agent maps ownership at depth 1 alongside analysts.
  • Second month. Analysts take the Operator modules on how a governed agent decides, human review and teaching the agent. Source-of-wealth drafts move to depth 2. Leads review five narratives a week with each analyst.
  • Third month. Analysts sit the Operator exam (40 questions; pass at 32 correct) and a two-week practicum on live files. Track every decision in the practicum log template for KYC analysts.

Where the Academy fits

Pryme Intelligence Academy runs the Operator practicum on real review decisions: two weeks, 95 in every 100 correct and no missed red line, signed off by a Pryme assessor. Module tests are set in wealth management and in the analyst's role, so the practice cases look like family holding structures, not retail accounts. Lessons can be read or listened to, which suits analysts studying between client deadlines.

Questions people ask

Can the agent read documents in Portuguese and English?

If the firm's past files include both, the agent's certification covers both. If a language or document type is not in the cases it was certified on, the agent should hold rather than guess.

Should relationship managers be certified?

They need Foundations so they understand why a file is held. Certification is for the people who approve held actions, which is usually the analysts and their leads.

How fast can low-risk reviews move to depth 3?

Only after the agent is certified at depth 3 on the firm's own reviews and analysts have completed their practicum. The agent's role sets the ceiling, the evidence sets the depth, and the lower wins.
