Retail bank loan officers in Brazil should learn to supervise agents that read account history, open finance data and property documents to draft credit decisions. The training covers how the agent reaches a verdict, how to test its drafts and how to record corrections. Home loan approvals, limit exceptions, declines and Pix disbursement stay with the officer.
What does a loan officer at a Brazilian retail bank handle?
The officer's customers already bank there. That changes the work: much of the evidence sits in the bank's own ledger, and the question is often whether to extend more credit to someone whose finances the bank can see. Pre-approved personal loan and overdraft limits are offered in the app; the officer handles the requests above them and the customers who ask why their limit fell.
Home financing is the heavy end. It involves the property's registration certificate, a valuation, the buyer's income over time and, often, use of the buyer's employment savings fund towards the purchase. A file can take weeks and involve a notary, a seller and an estate agent.
Micro-entrepreneurs are a third group. Many run a small registered business through their personal account, and the officer must separate business and household money to judge what they can afford.
How can agents help without taking over?
- Reading account history (depth 1). The agent summarises salary credits, regular outgoings and existing credit from the bank's own ledger. This data is sealed, which makes it the strongest evidence the officer has.
- Adding open finance data (depth 1). With the customer's consent, the agent reads account data shared from other institutions and adds it to the picture. Shared data is signed by the sending institution.
- Drafting limit increases (depth 2). For requests above the pre-approved amount, the agent drafts the recommendation and reasons. The officer decides.
- Checking home loan documents (depth 2). The agent reads the property registration certificate, valuation and contract, lists inconsistencies and drafts the credit memo.
- Disbursement by Pix or to the seller (depth 4). Held for a named officer. Reversing a settled payment is withheld at the platform floor for every agent.
The verdict on each action shows which of the five bounds decided it. A home loan memo held because the registration certificate was a scanned copy from the buyer (declared, not signed by the registry) is a source problem the officer can fix quickly.
Will agents replace retail loan officers?
No, though the job changes. An agent can read a year of transactions faster than any officer, but it cannot decide that a micro-entrepreneur's irregular income is healthy, or that a home purchase is sensible for a young family. The argument is in will AI agents replace loan officers?.
What stays with the officer: home loan approvals, limit exceptions, declines and the reasons given, hardship and renegotiation, any suspicion of fraud, and disbursement. These are the calls a supervisor or a court will want attributed to a person, which is why loan officers are the real control in an AI agent deployment.
What should officers learn?
The basics are in what loan officers should learn before working with AI agents: depth, the four verdicts, the minimum chain and provenance. For a retail bank, provenance carries special weight, because the officer constantly weighs sealed ledger data against signed open finance data and declared documents from the customer.
Officers must also learn to review a drafted memo properly: check the figures and sources, look for what is missing, decide. And they must learn to correct: a rejected draft with a reason improves the agent's brief and sources, as set out in teaching loan officers to bank corrections.
Finally, certification. The agent earns depth on the bank's own past files; its certificate lapses after 90 days, and a run that clears no depth drops it to depth 1 the same day.
Which Brazilian rules apply?
Banco Central do Brasil supervises banks, sets prudential and conduct rules, runs the Pix instant payment system and oversees open finance. A bank using agents in credit should be able to show the central bank who approved each use, how the agent was tested and who reviews its output.
The LGPD governs personal data in credit files, with the ANPD as the authority. It gives people the right to ask for a review of decisions taken solely through automated processing that affect their interests, so declines should involve a trained officer. Open finance data may only be used within the consent the customer gave, and the agent's use of it should be recorded.
Consumer protection rules require clear information and responsible lending, and housing finance has its own requirements on documentation and on use of employment savings.
This is an explanation of the rules, not legal advice; confirm how they apply to you with counsel.
What does the 90-day plan look like?
Days 1 to 30. Officers, branch managers and the credit risk owner complete Foundations (about 4 hours). Run the readiness assessment so the bank sees gaps by concept. The agent reads account history at depth 1.
Days 31 to 60. Officers take the Operator modules on how a governed agent decides, human review, teaching the agent and keeping knowledge current. Limit increase and home loan memos move to depth 2. Branch managers review held cases weekly with their officers.
Days 61 to 90. Officers sit the Operator exam (40 questions in 60 minutes; pass at 32 correct) and complete the two-week practicum on live files. Approval of held decisions and disbursements goes to certified officers only.

Where the Academy fits
Pryme Intelligence Academy includes seats with paid Pryme Intelligence plans, and those seats include certificates for the people on them. For a branch network, the admin view shows each officer's progress, results and certificate expiry, so a regional manager can see who may approve held decisions. Module tests are set in retail banking and in the loan officer's role.
Questions people ask
Can the agent use open finance data without asking the customer?
No. Open finance data depends on the customer's consent, and the agent's sources should be limited to what was consented. The record should show the consent the agent relied on.
Can pre-approved limits be raised by the agent alone?
Within tight bounds and after certification at depth 3, a bank may let the agent raise limits for customers with stable histories. Anything outside those bounds is held for an officer.
Who should check a home loan memo?
A certified officer, with a second approver above the bank's set amount. Property documents and valuation should be checked against registry and valuer sources, not only the buyer's copies.
