Ireland's software companies, EU headquarters of international technology firms and financial services operations all need QA testers who can evaluate and oversee AI agents. The realistic jobs are agent evaluation analyst, agent reviewer and agent builder. EU rules make testing evidence central to compliance, so your skills are directly relevant, and a certificate employers can check makes them visible.
What does QA work look like in Ireland today?
Irish QA testers work in product companies, the European bases of large technology firms, payments and fintech businesses, funds and insurance technology teams, and consultancies serving them. The work covers test planning, functional and regression testing, test automation, defect management, test data and release support. Many teams work across time zones with colleagues in the US and continental Europe, and English is the working language almost everywhere.
Because so many firms here serve EU-wide users, testers regularly deal with GDPR constraints on test data and with localisation for several European languages. Both become important when the system under test is an agent.
What changes as agents arrive?
- Test case generation, depth 2. An agent drafts test cases from requirements. You check coverage, especially negative paths and boundaries.
- Log analysis, depth 1. The agent reads test and production logs and flags anomalies. A person decides whether they are defects.
- Regression execution, depth 3. Within bounds, the agent runs suites and files defects with evidence.
- Release, depth 4. Stays with named owners.
- Testing agents in the product. You build cases for scope, refusal, escalation, grounding and drift, run them in each supported language, and test that users are told they are dealing with an AI system.
Consider a tester we will call Aoife at a payments company. Her case set shows the support agent refuses to reverse a settled payment in English and German, but in Italian it drafts a reversal request because a translated policy page is missing. She files the defect against the source, not the agent, and the gap closes. That is evaluation work, and it is what employers hire for.
Which AI operations jobs are open to QA testers?
Titles vary: "AI quality engineer", "trust and safety tester", "LLM evaluation analyst", "AI operations specialist". Read the duties: evaluation, review, exceptions, quality and escalation.
| Role | What it involves | Why QA fits |
|---|---|---|
| Agent evaluation analyst | Builds case sets and scores agents against floors | Test design and coverage thinking |
| Agent reviewer | Clears held decisions with a reason for each | Judging outputs against criteria |
| AI operations analyst | Studies holds and refusals and proposes changes | Root-cause analysis |
| Agent builder | Designs, trains and certifies agents to a set depth | Requirements plus test design |
Our guide to AI agent jobs and careers maps these roles. Why QA testers make strong AI agent reviewers explains which habits transfer.
What skills and certificate do Irish employers look for?
They look for test design aimed at agent failure modes, familiarity with GDPR constraints on test data, multilingual testing where relevant, and evidence of judgement on live decisions. Expect scenario questions; interview answers about AI agents for QA testers helps you prepare.
Certified Pryme Operator requires a written exam (40 questions in 60 minutes, pass mark four in five) and a two-week practicum of review decisions, nineteen in twenty correct with no missed red line, signed off by an assessor. It is issued through VerifyDoc.ai and checkable by number or QR code. It is a professional certificate, not a regulatory approval. It also opens the Builder track for testers who want to design and certify agents.
Which rules shape oversight work in Ireland?
Ireland applies the EU AI Act and GDPR. The AI Act entered into force on 1 August 2024, with prohibitions applying from 2 February 2025 and other obligations phasing in. Providers of high-risk systems need risk management, data governance covering testing data, automatic logs, deployer information, design for human oversight, and accuracy and cybersecurity measures (Articles 9, 10, 12, 13, 14 and 15). Article 50 sets transparency duties when people interact with AI. Testers generate much of the evidence.
GDPR governs personal data in test sets, and the Data Protection Commission supervises. In financial services, the Central Bank of Ireland supervises firms, and DORA requires digital operational resilience testing alongside ICT risk management. Security testing can draw on the OWASP Top 10 for LLM Applications.

What does a 90-day plan look like?
- Weeks 1 to 4. Complete the free Foundations track. Build a small case set for an imaginary support agent, covering refusals and escalations in at least two languages.
- Weeks 5 to 8. Study the Operator modules with tests set in software, using how QA testers can prepare for the AI operator exam.
- Weeks 9 to 13. Complete the practicum, on a simulated queue in a free workspace if needed, and sit the exam. How QA testers can complete the operator practicum explains the standard. Share the certificate and apply by duties, or make the internal case with how a QA tester can move into AI operations.
Where the Academy fits
Pryme Intelligence Academy offers Foundations, Operator and Builder on the real product, with free lessons, labs in a free Build workspace and tests set in software. Certificates are issued through VerifyDoc.ai and listed on a public register by name, credential and expiry.
Questions people ask
Do I need other European languages?
Not always, but they help where products serve several EU markets. Testing an agent in each supported language finds failures single-language testing misses.
Is trust and safety the same as agent evaluation?
They overlap. Trust and safety often focuses on harmful content; agent evaluation also covers authority: whether an agent acts within its depth and escalates.
How long is the certificate valid?
Twelve months. Renewal is an update module and a short quiz, and a lapsed certificate shows as lapsed when checked.
