Irish virtual assistants are well suited to three AI operations roles: agent reviewer, workspace coordinator and AI operations assistant for professional services firms. Agents now draft, book and file the way you do, and someone must decide what they may send. Under GDPR and the EU AI Act, clients want that oversight trained and checkable.
What does virtual assistant work look like in Ireland?
Many Irish VAs run their own small businesses and support solicitors, accountants, estate agents, consultants and small companies, in Ireland and often in the UK or US. The work covers inboxes, calendars, client onboarding, document formatting, invoicing, social media scheduling and travel. Remote work is normal, and many VAs live outside the cities and serve Dublin clients online.
Serving clients in several countries means working with different rules and expectations at once. You may hold access to a solicitor's case management system in the morning and a consultant's CRM in the afternoon. Keeping those worlds apart is a habit agent oversight relies on.
What changes as agents arrive?
Each capability an agent has runs at a depth earned on the firm's own cases:
- Inbox triage, depth 1. The agent sorts mail and flags suspected impersonation or invoice fraud.
- Client correspondence, depth 2. It drafts; you review and send.
- Calendar management, depth 3. Within the firm's rules, a certified agent books and moves meetings.
- Client onboarding packs, depth 2. It assembles documents and drafts the welcome pack. Identity documents the client has only described are flagged for a person.
- Payments, depth 4, held. A named person approves. An emailed request to change bank details is external and can never authorise a payment.
Solicitors' and accountants' client accounts make the payment rule especially important here. Fraudsters target property and legal transactions, and an agent must hold rather than act.
Which AI operations jobs are open to you?
Titles vary, and many roles are freelance. Read for duties: review, exceptions, approvals, quality and escalation.
Agent reviewer. You decide held drafts, bookings and payments and record a reason for each.
Workspace coordinator. You keep templates, contact data and policies current in the agent's sources.
AI operations assistant. You run the daily review rhythm for a small practice and escalate exceptions to the partner.
Freelance oversight. You review agents for several small clients, with separate data and bounds for each.
The guide to AI agent jobs and careers maps the field, and how a virtual assistant can move into AI operations gives a step-by-step route.
What do clients and employers look for?
Irish clients look for reliability, discretion and warm but precise writing. Show judgement with examples: an email you held because the sender's address was off by one letter, a booking you queried, a document you asked the client to send again. Why virtual assistants make strong AI agent reviewers sets out the case.
The Certified Pryme Operator gives a client something to check. It is a professional certificate, not a government licence. You pass a written exam of 40 questions in 60 minutes (pass mark four in five) and a two-week practicum of review decisions, nineteen in twenty correct with no missed red line, signed off by a Pryme assessor. How virtual assistants can prepare for the AI operator exam covers the exam. It is issued through VerifyDoc.ai and checked at source by number or QR code.
Which rules shape oversight work in Ireland?
Ireland applies the EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689), in force since 1 August 2024, with obligations phasing in over several years. Article 4 asks deployers to ensure AI literacy among people operating AI systems on their behalf, which can include contractors. Article 50 requires that people are told when they interact with an AI system.
GDPR governs the personal data you handle, supervised by the Data Protection Commission. When you process data for a client, you act on the client's instructions under a written agreement. Article 5 principles apply to every record, and Article 30 requires records of processing, which an agent's filed verdicts help a firm keep. If a client is a regulated financial firm, the Central Bank of Ireland's expectations on outsourcing and operational resilience may also apply.
This is an explanation of the rules, not legal advice; confirm how they apply to you with counsel.
What does a 90-day plan look like?
First month. Earn the free Foundations badge in about four hours. Check each client agreement covers data handling.
Second month. Work through the Operator modules, about 14 hours, and sit the exam. Tell clients what you are learning and ask about their plans for agents.
Third month. Complete the practicum, on a simulated queue in a free workspace if needed; how virtual assistants can complete the operator practicum explains it. Have the certificate issued, add its number to your website and LinkedIn, and practise with the interview answers about AI agents for virtual assistants.
Where the Academy fits
Pryme Intelligence Academy teaches agent review on the real product. Lessons, labs and tests are free, and lessons can be read or heard as audio. Module tests are set in your own industry and role. The Foundations badge is free; the Operator certificate carries an issue fee, paid only when it is issued.
Questions people ask
Can I serve UK clients from Ireland?
Yes. UK clients follow UK GDPR rather than GDPR, but the principles are close. Agree with each client which rules govern its data.
Is agent review a full-time job?
For a larger firm it can be. For small clients it is often a few hours a week each, which suits a VA business serving several firms.
How long does the certificate last?
The Operator certificate is valid for 12 months. Renewal is an update module and a short quiz.
