Target review roles at banks, insurers, lenders and large retailers, where AI agents now draft decisions that a person must check before customers see them. UK regulators expect firms to deliver good outcomes for customers and to name who is accountable, which keeps people in the loop. Bring domain experience from your last career and evidence an employer can check.
Why does UK regulation make this a sensible move?
The FCA's Consumer Duty requires firms serving retail customers to deliver good outcomes, which includes how an agent's replies treat people, especially those in vulnerable circumstances. The Senior Managers and Certification Regime makes named individuals accountable for areas of a firm's business, so someone senior answers for what agents do. The ICO enforces UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, including limits on solely automated decisions with significant effects. The UK takes a principles-based, regulator-led approach to AI rather than a single AI law.
All of that points to the same thing: firms need people who can judge an agent's decisions and leave a record that shows why. This is an explanation of the rules, not legal advice; confirm how they apply to you with counsel.
What would you do day to day?
- Review held decisions. The agent drafts a claim settlement, a refund or a payment plan; you approve, change or reject it with a reason.
- Check sources. You see what the agent relied on and where it came from. A customer's account in a message is declared; the firm's own record is sealed.
- Catch poor outcomes. A reply that is technically right but would confuse or upset a customer is a Consumer Duty concern, and catching it is part of the job.
- Escalate. Anything above your authority or touching vulnerability goes to the right person.
- Report patterns. If the agent keeps getting one thing wrong, you tell its owner.
What does a switch look like for one person?
Take a teaching assistant in Leeds we will call Chloe, who wants a role with more progression. She applies to a motor insurer's claims operations team, where an agent drafts settlement offers on minor claims. The agent holds offers above its limit and any where the customer mentions injury or financial difficulty.
In interview, Chloe is asked how she would handle a held offer that is within policy but well below what the customer says the repair cost. She talks through checking the garage invoice against the insurer's approved repairer rates, considering whether the customer understands the offer, and escalating if the gap suggests a mistake. Her school experience of explaining hard news to parents comes through. She is offered an entry reviewer role. Not every interview goes that way, but specific, outcome-focused answers are what panels listen for.
Where should you look, and what should you call yourself?
Titles vary: claims reviewer, customer outcomes analyst, quality assurance specialist, operations analyst, AI operations analyst. Read the duties instead: review of automated decisions, exceptions, approvals, quality checks, vulnerable customer handling, escalation.
UK CVs are usually two pages, without a photo, and focused on achievements. Describe your past work in terms of decisions within limits, errors caught and escalations made. Add a certificate an employer can check at source.

Where the Academy fits
Pryme Intelligence Academy is free to learn, with lessons as text or audio. Start with Foundations, about four hours. The Operator track teaches review, teaching the agent and handling incidents, with tests set in your chosen industry. Its practicum, on a simulated queue if you are not yet in a Pryme workplace, must reach nineteen in twenty correct with no missed red line. The certificate is checkable through VerifyDoc.ai.
Questions people ask
Do I need an FCA approval to do review work?
Most entry review roles do not carry a senior management function. Some roles fall under the firm's certification arrangements, which the employer handles. A professional certificate is separate from any of that.
Is London the only place to find these roles?
No. Many insurers, banks and retailers run operations centres across the UK, and review work is often hybrid.
Will my age or previous sector count against me?
Some employers may see it that way, but many value life experience in customer-facing review. Lead with specific evidence of judgment.
