Renew on time, follow what changes in the product, and keep making decisions. AI skills stay current through three habits: completing update modules and renewal quizzes before a certificate lapses, reading what changed each time the product you work with changes, and reviewing real or practice cases often enough that your judgement does not go stale.
What actually goes out of date?
Not everything. The core of review work holds steady: check where a fact came from, find the bound that decided, stay within your authority, escalate the rest, record your reason. Those habits do not expire.
What does change is the detail around them. New capabilities appear, the depth an agent may act at for a given job can change as it is recertified, interfaces move, and new kinds of manipulation show up in queues. A reviewer who learned the work well but has not looked since may still use the right method on the wrong picture of the system. That is the gap renewal is designed to close.
What does renewal involve?
| Credential | Validity | What renewal involves |
|---|---|---|
| Foundations badge | No expiry | None needed |
| Certified Pryme Operator | 12 months | An update module and a short quiz |
| Certified Pryme Builder | 12 months | Check the renewal steps well before expiry |
| Certified Pryme Architect | 24 months | Check the renewal steps well before expiry |
For most job seekers and reviewers, the Operator renewal is the one that matters. It is light by design: the update module covers what changed, and the quiz checks you took it in. Put the expiry date in your calendar with a reminder a month ahead.
How do you follow product changes between renewals?
Treat each change as something to read, not something to discover in the queue. Four habits help:
- Read change notes when they arrive. Ask what each change means for the decisions you make, not just what is new on the screen.
- Watch the bounds. If an agent's depth for a capability changes, or the business adjusts its own limits, the mix of held and refused work changes. Notice it the day it happens.
- Re-run a lab when something big changes. Labs run in a free Build workspace, so you can try a new behaviour before it reaches a live queue.
- Keep a short log. One line per change: what changed, what it means for review. It becomes useful evidence for interviews and appraisals.
Agent certificates lapse after 90 days and a run that clears no depth drops an agent to depth 1 the same day, so a live workspace can shift under you quickly. A reviewer who notices that "depth in use" fell overnight understands why held work suddenly doubled.
What does this look like for one person?
Take a claims reviewer we will call Imran at a motor insurer. His Operator certificate expires in the spring. In the months before, he reads each change note and adds a line to his log; one note explains a new check on repair invoices, which he tries in a lab before it reaches his queue. A month before expiry he completes the update module and the quiz.
When he applies for a senior reviewer role, he lists the certificate with its new expiry date and mentions two changes from his log in the interview. The current certificate does not guarantee the promotion; it shows the employer his skills match the system as it is now.
What does a lapsed certificate say to an employer?
Something you would rather it did not. A lapsed or revoked certificate shows as such on the same page an employer checks by number or QR code. Some businesses make approval rights depend on a current certificate, so a lapse can mean losing the right to approve until you renew. The reasoning is set out in why employers will ask for current certificates, not old ones.
On your CV, show the expiry date next to the certificate number; what AI skills should be on a CV covers the rest of that section.
Where the Academy fits
Pryme Intelligence Academy builds renewal into each certificate: for Certified Pryme Operator, an update module and a short quiz every 12 months. Lessons can be read or heard as audio, and labs run in a free Build workspace, so following a product change does not need your employer's live system.
Questions people ask
How is this different once I have a job?
At work, product changes reach you through a live queue, and your team may have its own routine for them. See how to keep your AI skills current after you are hired.
Who keeps the training itself up to date?
Renewal includes an update module, which is how certified operators catch up with what has changed. For the employer's side of the question, see how to keep AI agent training current when the product changes.
Do I need to renew if I am between jobs?
If you are applying for review roles, yes. A current certificate is the evidence employers check. The guide to AI skills for job seekers covers what else they ask you to prove.
