German organisations name AI agent owners to carry responsibility for an agent's bounds, depth, changes and incidents within one process. Owners are usually department or team leads, process managers or senior specialists. To become one, show you can review agent decisions, read certification evidence, document decisions to audit standard and work constructively with works councils and risk functions.
What does agent ownership look like in Germany?
German organisations tend to assign clear responsibilities and document them. Agents fit into that: each needs a named owner, recorded in the organisation's process documentation or, at banks and insurers, in risk and outsourcing inventories. Owners appear in insurers, banks and savings institutions, energy suppliers, manufacturers' service operations and large service centres.
Titles include Prozessverantwortlicher (process owner), product owner, Teamleitung and operations manager. Look for duties: approving changes, setting limits, monitoring quality, incident handling. What an AI agent owner does explains the daily work.
What does an owner decide?
You decide how far to trust the agent, capability by capability, on evidence from your own cases.
- Limits. For example, goodwill credits up to a set amount at depth 4; anything above is refused, and the agent may only draft it. Your limits narrow the agent; the platform floor alone withholds actions for every agent.
- Depth requests. When Attest shows the agent clearing all seven gates, you decide whether to ask for more depth for the agent, within the role's ceiling.
- Changes to sources. New tariff sheets, policy conditions or procedures enter the agent's sources only with your approval.
- Incidents. When a run clears no depth and the agent falls to depth 1, you redirect work to people, inform stakeholders and approve the fix.
- Works council questions. You explain what the agent and its records do, and how reviewer decisions are and are not used.

What do German employers look for?
German employers value documented qualifications, written references and thoroughness. Owners must write decisions down: why depth was raised, why a source changed, what happened in an incident. Bring examples of procedures or decision records you have written.
In interviews, expect detailed scenarios. "Your agent's refusal rate on cancellations rose after a tariff change. What do you do?" Check whether the new tariff sheet is in the sources, review a sample with reviewers, adjust and recertify.

Which rules shape an owner's work in Germany?
The EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) entered into force on 1 August 2024 and phases in over several years. For deployers of high-risk systems, Article 26 requires use according to instructions, human oversight by competent people, monitoring and log retention, and Article 14 sets the oversight requirements. Annex III lists credit scoring of natural persons and risk assessment and pricing in life and health insurance as high-risk, which matters for owners in banks and insurers. Article 4 expects AI literacy.
GDPR governs personal data, supervised by German data protection authorities; Article 22 restricts solely automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects. BaFin supervises banks and insurers, and DORA (from 17 January 2025) requires ICT risk management, incident reporting, resilience testing and third-party risk management. What should your 90 days look like?
Weeks 1 to 4. Earn the free Foundations badge. Write an ownership concept for one process: capabilities, depth, limits, what stays with people, how records are used.
Weeks 5 to 8. Complete Operator, including the practicum, on a simulated queue if your employer does not use Pryme. Draft an incident procedure for a failed run, in the format your organisation uses.
