Getting AI operator certified while working in Denmark takes about nine weeks of evening and weekend study: Foundations in the first week, the eight Operator modules over the next five, the written exam in week seven, and the two-week practicum after that. Danish working hours usually leave room for steady study without eating into weekends entirely.
Why does this certificate fit a Danish workplace?
Denmark is an EU member, so the EU AI Act and GDPR apply. Article 4 of the AI Act asks providers and deployers of AI systems to take measures so their staff have a sufficient level of AI literacy. Article 14 sets human oversight requirements for high-risk systems, and Article 26 sets obligations for deployers, including assigning oversight to people with the necessary competence. An employer meeting those duties needs people who can show they understand how an agent is governed and have made review decisions to a standard.
Certified Pryme Operator is one way to show that. It is a professional certificate, not a government licence, and no Danish authority issues or requires it. Whether it is useful for the roles you want is covered in is an AI operator certificate useful for jobs in Denmark.
The nine-week plan
- You, week 1: Foundations. Six modules, about 4 hours. Earns the free badge, which is the key to the Operator track.
- You, weeks 2 to 6: the eight Operator modules, about 14 hours, around three hours a week. Two weekday evening sessions and a short weekend session for labs and module tests.
- Agent in a free Build workspace, depth 2: drafts and holds during each lab, so you practise deciding held items.
- You, week 7: two timed rehearsals, then the exam. Forty questions in 60 minutes; four in five passes.
- You, weeks 8 and 9: the practicum. Two weeks of review decisions to nineteen in twenty, no missed red line, on your employer's live queue if it uses Pryme or a simulated queue in a free workspace if not.
- Pryme assessor: signs off. The certificate is issued through VerifyDoc.ai once the issue fee is paid.
What will a practicum queue look like under EU rules?
| Step | The agent does | Depth | Stays with a person |
|---|---|---|---|
| Customer reply that says it was written by AI | Drafts and holds, with disclosure | 2 | Approval; people must be told when they interact with an AI system |
| Data access request | Assembles and holds | 2 | Checking identity and entitlement under GDPR |
| Credit decision for a private customer | Summarises the file | 1 | The decision: credit scoring of natural persons is high-risk under the AI Act |
| Payment above the customer's limit | Prepares, held | 4, held | A named approver |
| Instruction from an emailed document | Refused: external claim | refused | Verification |
Which rules shape oversight work in Denmark?
The EU AI Act entered into force on 1 August 2024, with obligations phasing in over several years. Its human oversight, transparency (Article 50) and AI literacy duties are the ones that most affect people who review agents. GDPR applies to every personal data decision in the queue, and Article 22 restricts decisions based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects. In financial services, DORA applies from 17 January 2025 and covers ICT risk, including the systems agents run on. This is an explanation of the rules, not legal advice; confirm how they apply to you with counsel.
How do you fit it around Danish working life?
Danish workplaces tend to protect the end of the working day, which makes two fixed evening sessions a week realistic. Lessons can be read or heard as audio with notes, so the bike or train commute can carry some of the load too.
Plan the practicum outside the main summer holiday period, when many teams are thin and live queues are unrepresentative. If you are on a simulated queue, any steady fortnight works. The guide to training while working full-time in Denmark covers the wider balance.
What does a study week look like?
An illustrative week from the Operator stage. Monday evening: 40 minutes on one lesson, read with highlights. Wednesday evening: 40 minutes to finish the module and take its module test. Saturday: an hour for the lab in the free Build workspace, approving, correcting and rejecting the agent's held drafts. Sunday: ten minutes to list each module test miss and the bound that decided it. That is under three hours. If you share childcare or have evening commitments, swap the weekday slots for the commute and keep only Saturday fixed; the plan still holds.
Which controls and evidence will an employer see?
- The certificate page, checkable by number or QR code, showing current, lapsed or revoked status.
- The public register, with name, credential and expiry.
- The assessor's sign-off on your practicum.
- A note of the decision types you handled, useful when an employer documents how it meets AI literacy and oversight duties.
What should you measure?
Weekly hours against plan. Module test scores on first and second attempt. Rehearsal scores before booking. Practicum decisions correct over total each day.
Where does it usually go wrong?
Assuming the certificate satisfies a legal duty. It does not, on its own. It is evidence an employer can use as part of how it meets its obligations; the obligations remain the employer's.

Questions people ask
Do I need to study in Danish?
The plan above assumes study in English. Check with your employer whether practicum work on a live queue would involve Danish-language drafts; if so, your ability to check them is worth stating on your CV.
Does the AI Act require me to hold a certificate?
No. It places duties on providers and deployers, such as AI literacy and human oversight. A certificate is one way you can show competence, not a legal requirement on you.
How long is it valid?
Twelve months. Renewal is an update module and a short quiz. The AI operator certification guide explains the full route.
