AI agent jobs and careers·Answer

What does an AI agent reviewer job look like for a former customer service representative?

A former customer service representative reviewing AI agents decides held refunds, disputes and angry replies for an online shop, recording each verdict.

The tickets you used to answer are now answered by an agent, and you handle the ones it holds or refuses. In an online shop that means larger refunds, delivery disputes, account changes and customers who are upset. You check the facts, decide, and record why. You also sample what the agent sent alone, because a polite wrong answer still loses customers.

What does an e-commerce agent handle without you?

Most of the contact volume. The agent answers "where is my order" from the courier's tracking, explains the returns policy, issues return labels, processes refunds for returned items within limits once certified, and updates delivery addresses before dispatch. It replies in the shop's tone, in seconds, at any hour.

What it does on its own depends on what it has proven on the shop's past tickets. A refund for an item already back in the warehouse may run at depth 3. A refund for an item the customer says never arrived is different: the facts are weaker, so it is held.

What reaches your queue?

Ticket type The agent You
Order tracking and delivery dates Answers from courier data Sample replies weekly
Refund for a returned, checked item Refunds within bounds Nothing, unless sampling finds errors
"Item never arrived" refunds above the limit Drafts only (refused) Check tracking and history; decide
Damaged item with photos Drafts a replacement or refund Approve if above limit or unusual
Change of email or payment details on an account Holds Verify identity first
A customer who is angry or distressed Drafts a reply and flags Take over the conversation

What does a delivery dispute look like from the reviewer's chair?

Take a reviewer we will call Ben at an online homeware shop. The agent holds a refund of 260 for a lamp the customer says never arrived. Its draft approves the refund, because the customer is polite and the order is recent.

Ben checks the sources. The courier's tracking, signed by an identifiable party, shows delivery with a photo of the parcel at a door. The order history, which is sealed, shows two similar claims from the same account in the past six months. Ben does not accuse anyone: neighbours take parcels and photos can show the wrong door. He approves the agent's drafted reply asking the customer to check with neighbours, opens a claim with the courier, and records his reason. He also notes that the agent should weigh a delivery photo and account history before proposing a refund.

What happens to your decision?

Every verdict is filed in an append-only record: the agent's proposal, the facts and where they came from, your decision and your reason. If the customer escalates or files a chargeback, the shop can show exactly what was decided and why.

The record also shows your quality as a reviewer. You are judged on decisions that stand up and red lines not missed, such as changing an account's email without verifying identity. Average handling time is not the measure it used to be.

What carries over from customer service, and what is new?

Your best skills carry over. You can tell a frustrated customer from a dishonest one, mostly. You know how a reply lands. You know the policy's grey areas and when goodwill is cheaper than an argument. You know what makes a customer stay.

What is new is judging the agent: reading its sources, seeing which bound stopped it, and writing notes that change its brief. The guide to AI agent jobs and careers shows the roles around this work. The practical steps are in how to move from customer service representative to AI agent reviewer. The reviewer job for a former collections agent shows how the same skill works with customers who owe money.

Questions people ask

Will customer service jobs disappear?

Routine contacts move to agents. Shops still need people for the held cases, the upset customers and the checking, and some teams will be smaller. Reviewer roles are one of the clearest routes for experienced representatives.

Is reviewing agents boring compared with talking to customers?

You talk to fewer customers, but the ones you do talk to need you more. Sampling and pattern work add variety that a phone queue rarely gives.

What should I put on my CV?

Name the decisions you made, such as refunds, disputes and account changes, and how you handled escalations. The cover letter template for customer service representatives applying for AI operations jobs shows how to word it.
