AI agent jobs and careers·Answer

What jobs can a business analyst get with AI agent skills?

A business analyst with AI agent skills fits AI operations analyst, agent builder, deployment specialist and agent owner roles, notably in banking.

A business analyst with AI agent skills is well placed for the roles that shape and run agents, not just review them. In a retail bank, the fits are AI operations analyst, agent builder or trainer, AI deployment specialist and, with time, agent owner or governance analyst. Requirements and acceptance criteria translate almost directly into agent briefs and certification cases.

Why does business analysis translate so well?

A governed agent is defined by a few things a business analyst already produces. Its brief says what job it does, which is a requirement. Its sources say what information it may use, which is a data mapping. Its limits say what it must hold or refuse, which are business rules. Its certification replays it against real past cases scored against a floor, which is acceptance testing using the bank's own history.

The difference is that the agent's authority depends on evidence, not sign-off. A capability earns its depth on the bank's cases, keeps it only while its certificate is current, and drops to reading only the same day if a certification run fails. A business analyst who understands that will design agents that pass.

Which roles open up?

Role What you would do What carries over
AI operations analyst Watch patterns across an agent's decisions, chase causes, run the weekly review Root-cause analysis, stakeholder management
Agent builder or trainer Write the agent's brief, choose sources, build test cases, run certification Requirements, business rules, acceptance criteria
AI deployment specialist Map the process, connect sources, set limits, plan rollout by capability Process mapping, change management, project delivery
Agent owner Answer for an agent's scope, limits, changes and incidents Product ownership, prioritisation
AI governance analyst Test controls and assemble evidence Traceability, documentation

Reviewer roles are also open, and a short spell deciding held items teaches you how agents fail in practice, which makes you a better builder later.

What does this look like in a retail bank?

Take a business analyst we will call Chloe at a retail bank, assigned to a servicing agent for mortgage customers. The business wants it to handle payment date changes. Chloe maps the current process and writes the rules: changes allowed once a year, not within ten days of the next payment, and never for accounts in arrears.

She then turns each rule into test cases drawn from real past requests, including awkward ones: a customer who changed date eleven months ago, a request on day nine, an account that fell into arrears last week. Those cases go into the certification set. The agent passes on most but fails the arrears case, because the arrears flag comes from a source it was not reading. Chloe adds the source, the agent is retested and passes, and the capability goes live at routine depth with arrears cases refused by the bank's own limits. Her requirements became the evidence that the agent may act.

What skills should you add?

  • The vocabulary of governed agents: depth, provenance, the four verdicts, the minimum chain of bounds.
  • Provenance thinking: a ledger fact is sealed; a customer's statement is declared; an emailed document is external. Rules must say which kind each decision needs.
  • Test design from real cases, not invented scenarios.
  • Operational patience: live operation surfaces cases no requirements workshop found.
  • Knowledge of the rules your bank follows, such as model risk expectations.

Job titles vary. Look for duties such as agent design, automation requirements, AI operations, test design and deployment.

How do you make the move?

If your bank is deploying agents, ask to work on the next capability's requirements and certification cases. If it is not, build evidence elsewhere: design an agent in a free practice workspace and certify it. Pryme Intelligence Academy's Builder track, which ends in a capstone agent certified to depth 2 or higher, fits a business analyst well.

Questions people ask

Do I need to code to build agents?

Usually not. Builder work centres on briefs, sources, limits and test cases. Some technical comfort with data and systems helps.

Is this a move away from business analysis?

It is business analysis with a new kind of system, one that makes judgement calls and must earn its authority. Many people keep the title and change the work.

How do I present this on a CV?

Show requirements that became tests, and processes you mapped where a person decides. The cover letter template for business analysts applying for AI operations jobs gives wording.
