A 90-day AI skills plan for career changers

A 90-day AI skills plan for career changers: pick a role by its duties, learn agent review, prove it in a practicum and present it to employers.

Spend the first month deciding and learning, the second proving, and the third presenting. Pick a target role by its duties, complete Foundations and the Operator modules, pass the exam, finish a two-week practicum of assessed review decisions, then rewrite your CV around the decisions you made. Ninety days is enough if you protect about five hours a week.

What is a career changer really changing?

Usually less than it feels like. Most people moving into AI operations are not abandoning their old work; they are moving from doing a task to deciding whether an agent did it properly. A former claims handler still judges claims. A former shop manager still spots a refund that does not add up. What changes is the position: you sit between the agent and the outcome, read why it reached a verdict, and approve, correct, hold or escalate.

That means your past job is not a gap to explain away. It is your domain knowledge, and it is often the reason an employer would choose you over a candidate who knows the software but not the work. The guide to AI skills for job seekers sets out what employers ask people to prove; this plan is the route to proving it in ninety days.

What does the plan look like across ninety days?

Days Focus Time each week What you have at the end
1 to 10 Choose a target role from adverts; Foundations About 4 hours A target, and the Foundations badge
11 to 45 Operator modules and labs About 3 hours Module tests passed in your chosen industry
46 to 52 Revision and the written exam A few hours A pass at four in five
53 to 70 Two-week practicum A daily review block A record ready for sign-off
71 to 90 Issue, CV, applications, interview practice About 5 hours A checkable certificate and live applications

What are the steps, in order?

  1. You, days 1 to 5: collect ten adverts. Ignore titles; they vary widely. Highlight the duties: review, exceptions, approvals, quality checks, escalation. Notice which industry keeps appearing.
  2. You, days 1 to 10: Foundations. Six modules, about 4 hours, on why agents must be governed, the decision chain, depth and certification, the workspace, what a business pays for, and ownership, data and trust. It earns the free Foundations badge, which does not expire.
  3. You, day 10: choose your industry for module tests. Module tests are set in your industry and role. Choose your old industry if you want to carry your domain knowledge across, or the new one if you are moving sector.
  4. You, days 11 to 45: the Operator modules. Eight modules, about 14 hours, with a lab for each in a free Build workspace. Lessons can be read or heard as audio with highlights and notes.
  5. You, around day 50: the written exam. 40 questions in 60 minutes, pass mark four in five.
  6. You, days 53 to 70: the practicum. Two weeks of review decisions on a simulated queue in a free workspace, unless your current employer runs Pryme. The standard is nineteen in twenty correct and no missed red line.
  7. A Pryme assessor, then you: sign-off and issue. You pay an issue fee to have the certificate issued; you pay to be issued, never to pass.
  8. You, days 71 to 90: present it. Rewrite your CV, apply, and rehearse interview answers built on your practicum decisions.

How do you translate your old job into the new one?

Write a short list of decisions you used to make that have the same shape as review work. For each, name what you checked and why. A retail supervisor might write: "approved refunds within my limit, sent larger ones to the store manager, refused refunds without proof of purchase." That is the minimum chain in plain clothes: your role scope, the customer's limits and the sources you trusted decided the outcome, and the lowest one won.

Then pair each with a practicum decision. "Held a refund above the customer's limit and escalated to the named approver" sits naturally beside the retail example. Interviewers see a person who already had the judgement and now has the vocabulary and a checked record. The guide on how career changers explain AI agent skills in an interview gives more examples.

What evidence will you have, and how do you make it checkable?

By day 90 you should have four things. The Foundations badge. Module test results in your chosen industry. The practicum record, signed off. And Certified Pryme Operator, issued through VerifyDoc.ai with a number and QR code that anyone can check at source, plus an entry on the public register by name, credential and expiry.

Put the certificate number on your CV under certifications. Describe it in a line: two weeks of assessed review decisions on actions an AI agent had held. Share it to LinkedIn with a short write-up of one decision. The 90-day AI skills learning plan template gives you a tracker for all of this.

What should you measure each fortnight?

Hours completed against plan; module tests passed; and, from day 46 onwards, your accuracy on practice items in the Build workspace. You want nineteen in twenty before the practicum starts, and no red-line near misses. In the last month, measure applications sent to roles whose duties match your list, not total applications.

Where do career changers usually stumble?

They hide their old career instead of using it. They chase titles like "AI specialist" when the work they suit is advertised as operations, quality or case review. They rush the practicum alongside a demanding job and miss a red line. And they wait until day 90 to start looking at adverts, when the adverts should have shaped the plan on day one.

Be honest with yourself about fit, too. If you discover in the first month that reviewing decisions all day does not suit you, stopping at Foundations is a sensible outcome. Compare this plan with the 90-day plan for graduates, which assumes no work history, or the route for career changers in Canada.

Where the Academy fits

Pryme Intelligence Academy covers every learning step in this plan free: Foundations, the Operator modules in text or audio, labs in a free Build workspace, module tests in the industry you choose, and the exam. The practicum runs on a simulated queue if you have no job that uses Pryme, and Certified Pryme Operator is then issued through VerifyDoc.ai for any employer to check.

Questions people ask

Is ninety days realistic if I work full time?

Yes, for most people, at about five hours a week, with one harder fortnight during the practicum. If your job has a peak in that window, move the practicum rather than squeeze it.

Will this get me a job?

No plan can promise that. It gives you knowledge, a record of real decisions and a certificate an employer can check, which is more than most career changers can show. Your applications and interviews do the rest.

Should I take a lower-level job to get in?

Sometimes a first step into a review or quality role in your current industry is the fastest way to use the certificate. Judge each role by its duties and what you would learn, not by its title.
