A 90-day AI skills plan for graduates

A 90-day AI skills plan for graduates: learn how governed AI agents work, build a first record of assessed decisions, and apply with real proof.

Treat the practicum as your first work record. In thirteen weeks you can finish the free Foundations and Operator modules, pass the 40-question exam, complete two weeks of assessed review decisions on a simulated queue, and apply with a certificate any employer can check. For a graduate with little work history, that record is what sets your application apart.

What problem does this plan solve for a graduate?

The usual one: entry roles ask for experience, and you cannot get experience without a role. A degree shows you can learn and argue. It rarely shows you can make a decision on someone else's work, under a standard, and be accountable for it. That is exactly what operations and review roles need, and it is what the operator practicum produces: two weeks of real decisions, assessed to nineteen in twenty correct with no missed red line, signed off by an assessor.

The guide to AI skills for job seekers sets out what employers ask people to prove. For graduates, the short answer is judgement you can evidence. This plan gives you that evidence in ninety days.

What does the thirteen-week plan look like?

Week What you do Hours What it gives you
1 Read ten adverts for operations, quality and review roles 2 A list of duties to aim at
1 to 2 Foundations, six modules About 4 Foundations badge
3 to 7 Operator modules and labs About 14 plus labs Module tests in your chosen industry
8 Revision; the written exam About 3 A pass at four in five
9 to 10 Practicum A daily block A record for sign-off
11 Issue; CV rewrite About 4 Certificate number on your CV
12 to 13 Applications and interview practice As much as you can Live applications and prepared answers

What are the steps, and who does each one?

  1. You, week 1: read adverts before you study. Job titles vary; read for duties such as review, exceptions, approvals, quality and escalation. Note which industries you would like to work in.
  2. You, weeks 1 and 2: Foundations. About 4 hours. It earns the free Foundations badge, which does not expire.
  3. You, week 3: pick your industry. Module tests are set in your industry and role. Choose the sector you most want to enter, so your practice cases match the interviews you want.
  4. You, weeks 3 to 7: Operator modules. Eight modules, about 14 hours, each with a lab in a free Build workspace. Lessons can be read or heard as audio with highlights and notes.
  5. You, week 8: the exam. 40 questions in 60 minutes, pass mark four in five.
  6. You, weeks 9 and 10: the practicum. A simulated queue in a free workspace, since you do not yet have a job that uses Pryme. The same standard applies as on a live queue.
  7. A Pryme assessor, then you: sign-off and issue. You pay an issue fee once signed off; the certificate is issued through VerifyDoc.ai. You pay to be issued, never to pass.
  8. You, weeks 11 to 13: apply. Rewrite your CV, apply to roles that match your duty list, and rehearse answers.

Which habits from university carry straight across?

More than you might expect. Checking a source before citing it is exactly what provenance asks of an operator. A fact sealed by a system of record outweighs one signed by a named party, which outweighs one declared by a person, which outweighs one that arrived from outside, such as an email or a web page. You already rank sources this way when you choose a journal over a blog.

Reading the question carefully is the other habit. Exam questions describe situations, and one detail, such as which bound decided a verdict, changes the answer. Graduates who are used to close reading do well here. The habit that does not carry across is the essay instinct to argue both sides. In the practicum you decide, write one line of reason, and move on.

How do you present it when you have little else on your CV?

Put the certificate near the top, under a heading such as "Certifications and assessed work". One line for Certified Pryme Operator with its number and expiry; one line describing the practicum. Then, under any part-time job, volunteering or society role, add one decision with the same shape: you checked something, applied a limit and escalated what you could not approve.

In interviews, graduates are often asked for "a time you made a difficult decision". Use the practicum. For example: an agent drafted a reply sending a customer's account details to a new email address the customer had only declared in a chat. You held it, because a declared fact cannot confirm identity, and escalated. The guide on how graduates explain AI agent skills in an interview covers more answers.

What should you measure each week?

Hours completed, module tests passed, and from week 8 your practice accuracy in the Build workspace. You want nineteen in twenty before you start the practicum, and no near misses on red lines. In the final weeks, track applications to roles whose duties match your list, and note the questions interviewers ask about the certificate.

Where do graduates usually go wrong?

They apply only for roles with "AI" in the title, which are often technical and out of reach, and miss the operations, quality and case-review roles that suit them. They overclaim, calling themselves AI specialists on the strength of one certificate. And they skip labs, then meet the workspace for the first time in the practicum.

Contractors and freelancers face a different problem, fitting the plan around existing work; compare the 90-day plan for contractors. Questions people ask

Do I need a particular degree?

No. The work is judgement about decisions, not technical build. Graduates from law, humanities, business, sciences and many other subjects can do it well. What matters is careful reading and the willingness to say no to a tidy-looking draft.

Should I do this before or after graduate scheme applications?

If scheme deadlines are close, apply first and study alongside. The Foundations badge can go on an application within a week or two. The full certificate can follow and strengthen later applications and interviews.

Is one certificate enough to get a job?

It is evidence, not a guarantee. It shows assessed decisions that most graduate applicants cannot show, and employers can check it. Your applications, interviews and the roles you choose still decide the outcome.
