Singapore paralegals supporting litigation and international arbitration can use agents to build bundles, draft chronologies and run client due diligence checks. Their training should cover how agents decide, how to check drafts against sources, how to bank corrections and what the courts' guidance on AI expects. Filings, advice, due diligence conclusions and client money stay with people.
What do paralegals in Singapore legal services do?
Arbitration and commercial litigation take a large share of paralegal time in Singapore. Paralegals assemble bundles of documents and authorities, build chronologies and dramatis personae, manage document production, and prepare filings for the courts' electronic system and for arbitral tribunals. Hearings bring long nights of bundle changes.
Client intake carries compliance work. Law practices must carry out customer due diligence for certain matters, identify beneficial owners and screen clients, and paralegals often gather and check the documents. In corporate practice they prepare company secretarial filings and support transactions.
Many matters involve parties and documents from across the region, in several languages, and paralegals coordinate translations.
Where do agents help, and how far?
- Bundle assembly (depth 2). The agent assembles and paginates bundles to the tribunal's or court's directions and drafts the index. A paralegal checks and a lawyer approves before filing.
- Chronologies (depth 2). The agent drafts the chronology, each entry tied to a document and page. The paralegal checks the cited pages.
- Client due diligence (depth 1 and 2). The agent collects registry extracts, identifies beneficial owners and screens names, then drafts the due diligence note. A person decides whether due diligence is complete.
- Deadline diarising (depth 3). After certification on the practice's own matters, routine entries from directions and orders go in without approval each time.
- Filing and client money (held). Electronic filings and payments from client accounts are always held for authorised people.
A registry extract is signed; a client's own organisation chart is declared; a production from the other side is external. Each verdict shows which.
What should paralegals never let an agent do?
Never let it file or serve without a person. Never let it cite an authority nobody has checked. Never let it conclude client due diligence. Never let it reach into matters outside its assignment. Never let it move client money. The fuller list is in what paralegals should never let an AI agent do.
The authority behind each held action should be explicit. How to set an approver rule for the legal operations team explains how to decide who may approve filings, due diligence conclusions and payments, and record it.
What must paralegals learn?
The mechanics. The agent's depth and the depth each action needs, the four verdicts, the minimum chain of five bounds and provenance.
Source checking. Every chronology entry and every authority must be checked against its source. The courts' guidance on generative AI keeps court users responsible for the accuracy of what they file.
Corrections. When a paralegal fixes an agent's draft, writing down why lets the practice improve the agent's brief and sources. Without that, the same mistake returns on the next matter. The method is in teaching paralegals to bank corrections.
Certification. The agent is certified on the practice's own past matters; its certificate lapses after 90 days; a lapse, or a run that clears no depth, drops it to depth 1 the same day. If that happens the week before a hearing, the bundle work returns to people, and the plan should allow for it.
Which Singapore rules apply?
Singapore's courts have issued guidance for court users on generative AI, which allows its use but keeps users responsible for the accuracy of anything filed; they may be asked how a document was prepared. Professional rules for lawyers require supervision of staff, confidentiality and honesty to the court, and law practices must carry out customer due diligence for certain matters.
The Personal Data Protection Act 2012, enforced by the PDPC, governs personal data in client files: consent or another basis, use limited to the purpose, and protection. IMDA's Model AI Governance Framework offers voluntary guidance on human involvement and explainability.
Practices with offices or clients in the EU should note that Article 4 of the EU AI Act requires deployers to ensure AI literacy among staff; see EU AI Act Article 4 AI literacy for AI agents in legal services.

A 90-day plan
| Weeks | Paralegals | Agent |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 4 | Foundations, about 4 hours, with supervising lawyers and the compliance lead | Collects due diligence documents at depth 1 |
| 5 to 8 | Operator modules on human review, teaching the agent, when something goes wrong; correction practice on past matters | Bundles, chronologies and due diligence notes at depth 2 |
| 9 to 13 | Exam (32 of 40 questions to pass) and two-week practicum on live matters | Deadline diarising considered for depth 3 after certification |

Where the Academy fits
Pryme Intelligence Academy runs the Operator practicum on real review decisions: two weeks, 95 in every 100 correct and no missed red line, signed off by a Pryme assessor. Module tests are set in legal services and in the paralegal's role. Certificates can be checked at source through VerifyDoc.ai, and a public register lists certified people by name, credential and expiry.
Questions people ask
Can the agent check whether a case it cites exists?
It can check its sources, and it should hold anything it cannot match. A person must still read each authority before it is filed.
Can the agent conclude client due diligence?
No. It can gather documents, identify beneficial owners and screen names. Deciding that due diligence is complete is a person's responsibility.
How should arbitration bundles differ from court bundles?
Tribunals set their own directions. The agent's sources should include each tribunal's directions, and bundles for a new tribunal should be held until checked.
