French wealth management operations leaders can give AI agents the work around life insurance contracts, beneficiary claims, client file completeness and cost reporting. Agents check, assemble and draft in French; people decide advice, beneficiary payments and complaints. The ACPR, the markets regulator, EU investment services rules, GDPR, DORA and the EU AI Act apply.
What do wealth management operations leaders in France spend their time on?
Life insurance as the main wrapper. French households hold much of their long-term savings in life insurance contracts, which serve as investment wrappers and inheritance tools. Operations processes premiums, switches between funds, partial surrenders and beneficiary clause changes, often for clients whose contracts span decades.
Beneficiary claims. When a policyholder dies, the insurer or distributor must identify and find the beneficiaries and pay them within set timeframes. Unclaimed contracts have been a long-running supervisory concern, and operations must search actively.
Equity savings plans and securities accounts. Tax-advantaged equity savings plans have their own rules on eligible assets, transfers and withdrawals. Breaking a rule can close the plan and change the client's tax position.
Client files. EU investment services rules require suitability assessments, cost and charges disclosures, and records of client communications. Wealth managers keep files for every client and every recommendation, and inspections test them.
Where can AI agents help French wealth teams?
- Contract administration (depth 3). The agent processes standard premium payments, scheduled switches and address changes within the contract's terms and the client's instructions. Anything outside the instruction is drafted.
- Beneficiary search and claim files (depth 2). The agent checks death notifications against contracts, reads the beneficiary clause, identifies the beneficiaries and drafts the letters requesting documents. A person verifies entitlement and approves payment.
- Client file completeness (depth 2). The agent checks each client file for a current suitability assessment, signed documents and cost disclosures, and lists gaps for the adviser. Our playbook on how to connect an AI agent to your document management system covers reading files without changing them.
- Equity savings plan checks (depth 2). Before a transfer or purchase, the agent checks eligibility under the plan's rules and flags anything that could close it.
- Incident and change logging (depth 3). The agent logs operational incidents to the IT service management platform. See our playbook on how to connect an AI agent to your IT service management platform.
Beneficiary claims are the use most specific to France. Clauses are written in free text, sometimes decades ago, and naming "my children" or "my spouse" requires interpretation against the civil status of the family today. An agent can read the clause and assemble the family's documents carefully; a person decides who is paid.
What stays with people, and why?
Advice and recommendations stay with advisers.
Payments to beneficiaries, surrenders and withdrawals stay with people. Paying the wrong person is hard to undo and can lead to litigation.
Interpreting ambiguous beneficiary clauses stays with people, often with legal support.
Arbitrages outside a client's mandate stay with the portfolio manager.
Complaint outcomes stay with people.
Which rules apply in France?
The ACPR supervises insurers and banks, including life insurance distribution, beneficiary claims and anti-money-laundering controls. The national markets regulator supervises investment services, asset managers and financial advisers. ESMA and EIOPA issue EU-wide guidance. EU investment services rules require suitability assessments, cost and charges disclosures, product governance and record keeping, including of client communications.
GDPR, supervised by the CNIL, governs client data. Article 22 restricts decisions based solely on automated processing with significant effects, and Article 35 requires impact assessments for high-risk processing. DORA (Regulation (EU) 2022/2554), applying from 17 January 2025, covers ICT risk, incident reporting, resilience testing and ICT third-party risk for investment firms, insurers and banks, including an agent's supplier.
The EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) entered into force on 1 August 2024. Risk assessment and pricing for life and health insurance is high-risk under Annex III, which matters for insurers that price, not for operations agents that administer contracts. Article 50 requires disclosure to clients who interact with an agent. Firms that use models in investment processes manage them under their model governance; our explainer on what model risk management is covers the basics.

How should you start in the first 90 days?
Weeks 1 to 4: run client file completeness checks in shadow across a sample of files. The gaps it finds are useful whether or not the agent goes further.
Weeks 5 to 8: certify contract administration at depth 3 for standard premium payments and scheduled switches. Begin beneficiary claim files in shadow.
Weeks 9 to 13: add equity savings plan checks. Brief advisers and assistants on what changes for them; our explainer on what change management is covers the approach. Follow deploying an AI agent: train, shadow, certify, widen. For a market built on superannuation and fee consent rules, see our brief on operations agents in Australian wealth management.
Where Pryme fits
In Pryme, the contract record and beneficiary clause arrive as sealed sources from the policy system, a notary's statement as signed, and a relative's letter as declared. The claim file shows which class supports each beneficiary. Payment is above the agent's depth, so it is held for a named person, and every verdict is filed.
Questions people ask
Can the agent pay a beneficiary when the clause is clear?
We would keep payment with a person. Even clear clauses depend on correctly identified beneficiaries.
Can the agent change a beneficiary clause on a client's request?
It can prepare the change from a signed request. A person checks it, because clause changes have inheritance consequences.
Is a contract administration agent high-risk under the EU AI Act?
No. Administration is not in Annex III. Pricing life and health insurance is.
