AI agent jobs and careers·Sector brief

AI operations careers for compliance analysts in the Netherlands

AI jobs for compliance analysts in the Netherlands: agent reviewer and AI governance roles in banks, DNB, AFM and AI Act, and a 90-day plan.

Agents arrive first in customer due diligence at Dutch retail banks, so a compliance analyst's route into AI operations usually runs through KYC and transaction monitoring review. Other roles follow: AI governance analyst and control tester for agent deployments. Employers look for AML depth, evidence discipline, EU regulatory knowledge and proof of review skill.

What does compliance work in a Dutch retail bank look like?

Customer due diligence is the centre of gravity. Dutch banks run large teams that review customer files, investigate transaction monitoring alerts, refresh information on higher-risk customers and decide on escalation. Supervisory attention to how well banks act as gatekeepers against money laundering has been intense, so the work is thorough and well documented.

Other teams handle conduct, product approval, data protection and regulatory change. Many banks work largely in English internally, which opens these roles to international candidates, though Dutch remains important for customer contact and for reading Dutch-language evidence. Compliance analysts here are used to defending decisions with a clear file, which is the core skill of agent oversight.

Which compliance tasks will agents take on?

Each agent is certified on the bank's own past cases, and each task needs a depth. Depth is earned, not configured.

  • File assembly (depth 1). The agent gathers the customer file, ownership structure, transactions and alerts, and stamps each fact with its provenance: sealed bank data, signed documents, declared customer statements or external sources.
  • Draft assessments (depth 2). It drafts the alert investigation, the risk assessment update or the unusual transaction report narrative. An analyst decides and files.
  • Routine information requests (depth 3). Within approved templates and the bank's limits, the agent requests documents and chases gaps.
  • Exiting or restricting a customer (depth 4). Held for a named person.

A common trap is an ownership chart supplied by the customer. It is declared, not verified. An agent can place it beside a registry extract, but only an analyst decides whether they match well enough.

Backlogs are the other reason banks bring agents in. Large file review programmes create queues that take months to clear, and agents can prepare files far faster than people. The constraint then becomes review capacity: how many analysts can decide held cases accurately each day. That is why, in due diligence teams, the work that needs people shifts towards review rather than disappearing.

What do Dutch employers look for, and how do you show it?

They look for AML depth: ownership structures, source of funds, unusual transactions. They look for clear, direct reasoning, defended plainly in interview. And they look for comfort with documentation, since every decision must stand up to supervisory review.

Dutch CVs are concise, usually two pages, with a short motivation letter. The CV template for AI operations jobs in the Netherlands shows how to present a certificate number and one review decision. Which rules shape agent oversight in Dutch banking?

De Nederlandsche Bank supervises banks prudentially and supervises their compliance with anti-money laundering rules; the AFM supervises conduct. ECB banking supervision applies to significant banks. DNB and AFM expectations and AI operations careers explains what these mean for staff. EU AML rules follow the FATF Recommendations, and AMLA is being established in Frankfurt.

The EU AI Act asks for AI literacy (Article 4), risk management and logs for high-risk systems (Articles 9 and 12), human oversight (Article 14) and deployer duties (Article 26). GDPR applies through the national data protection authority, including Article 22. DORA covers ICT risk and third-party risk.

This is an explanation of the rules, not legal advice; confirm how they apply to you with counsel.

Questions people ask

Can I work in these roles without Dutch?

Many bank compliance teams work in English. Dutch helps for customer contact and Dutch-language evidence.

Is KYC experience enough to move into AI governance?

It is a strong start. Add knowledge of the AI Act and DORA, and evidence of review work, and governance roles become realistic.

Is the certificate a DNB or AFM qualification?
