Online retailers, marketplaces and delivery platforms in the UAE are hiring people to supervise AI agents that answer customers in Arabic and English, settle refunds, check sellers and screen fraud. The roles are agent reviewer, AI operations analyst, knowledge owner and quality lead. Employers look for judgement on exceptions, data care under UAE law, and proof they can check.
How does e-commerce operations work in the UAE?
UAE e-commerce is bilingual, fast and regional. Customers expect quick delivery, write in Arabic, English or a mix of both, and in some segments still choose cash on delivery. Many platforms based in Dubai or Abu Dhabi also serve Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other Gulf markets from the same team, and demand peaks sharply around Ramadan, Eid and year-end sales.
The operations behind that involve delivery exceptions and failed cash collections, refunds and returns, seller onboarding and performance, counterfeit and prohibited listings, and payment fraud. Teams are often multinational, and much internal communication is in English.
What do agents handle, and how far can they go?
Agents take the high-volume, rule-based work. Each capability runs at a depth set by evidence, never above the ceiling the business allows.
- Bilingual customer contact (depth 1 to 3). The agent answers order and delivery questions in Arabic or English, rebooks deliveries and explains charges. Complaints that threaten legal action or involve a vulnerable customer go to a person.
- Cash-on-delivery exceptions (depth 2). The agent drafts the outcome for a failed or disputed collection; a reviewer confirms, because the record of who paid what is hard to fix later.
- Refunds (depth 3 within limits). Routine refunds under the platform's limit go through. Larger refunds, repeat claims and damage disputes are held for a named person.
- Seller and listing checks (depth 1 to 2). The agent reads trade licence details and listings, then drafts approvals or takedowns for review.
Peak seasons are where oversight earns its keep. Volumes multiply, the agent's held queue grows, and a reviewer who can clear it accurately, without loosening the standard, is the person a team wants.

What will employers look for, and how do you show it?
Bilingual review is the stand-out skill. If you can read an Arabic customer message, judge whether the agent's English-sourced reply is correct and polite, and correct it, say so and show an example. Beyond language, employers want people who make a decision, write the reason, and escalate when a case falls outside the rules.
Build evidence you can hand over: a short anonymised log of exceptions you decided in your current role, a decision log from a simulated review queue, and a professional certificate verifiable at source. UAE employers may ask for attested copies of academic qualifications, so have those ready too. The CV template for AI operations jobs in the UAE shows how to set this out.
Which UAE rules shape oversight work?
The federal Personal Data Protection Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021) governs how businesses process personal data onshore. For an agent, that means using customer data only for the purposes customers were told about, keeping it secure, and respecting customers' rights over their data. Reviewers handle names, addresses and phone numbers all day, so data care is part of the job.
Platforms based in the DIFC follow the DIFC Data Protection Law instead, and financial firms there answer to the DFSA; in ADGM, the FSRA. If a platform offers its own payment or stored-value services onshore, the Central Bank of the UAE is the relevant regulator, and card data falls under PCI DSS. Consumer protection rules on refunds and accurate product descriptions also limit what an agent may promise.
If the platform serves EU customers, GDPR and the EU AI Act may apply to that activity too, including the duty to tell people they are interacting with an AI system.
This is an explanation of the rules, not legal advice; confirm how they apply to you with counsel.
What should your 90 days look like?
Month one: learn. Understand depth, the four verdicts (allowed, held, refused, withheld) and why an emailed claim cannot authorise a refund by itself. Pryme Intelligence Academy's free Foundations badge covers these ideas in about four hours.
Month two: prove. Practise on a simulated queue, keep a decision log, and earn a certificate an employer can check. Write two examples of bilingual corrections you would make.
Month three: apply. Target marketplaces, retailers and delivery platforms, especially ahead of peak seasons when teams expand. Questions people ask
Do I need to speak Arabic?
Not for every role, but bilingual reviewers are valuable because they judge what Arabic-speaking customers will read. English-only candidates are more likely to find analyst or quality roles.
Is a professional certificate the same as a licence?
No. A professional certificate is not a government licence. It shows an employer you have made review decisions to a standard, and they can check it at source.
Are these roles open to people moving to the UAE?
Many are, subject to the usual visa and employment requirements. Having evidence of review work and a checkable certificate helps an employer assess you from abroad.
