Graduates have no work history to point to, so the portfolio must create one. Build it from three things an employer can test: lab work showing you can operate a governed workspace, practicum decisions with a written reason for each, and a certificate the employer checks at source. Together they show judgement, which is what a degree alone cannot.
Why does a graduate need different evidence?
A degree shows you can learn, research and write. It does not show that you make sound decisions when an action is about to affect a customer's money or account. Employers hiring for review, exceptions or quality roles know that, and they know graduates have not yet had the chance to prove it.
The practicum fills that gap. Two weeks of review decisions to a standard of nineteen in twenty correct and no missed red line, signed off by a Pryme assessor, is a record of decisions, not of study. For many graduates it is the first work-like record they can show.
What goes into a graduate's portfolio?
- Foundations badge. Free, no expiry, about 4 hours. It tells an employer you understand why agents must be governed, the decision chain, and depth and certification.
- Two or three lab write-ups. From a free Build workspace. Pick ones that show different skills: tracing a refusal to the bound that decided, checking a fact's provenance (sealed, signed, declared or external), reading the decision record.
- Six to ten practicum decisions. Each with the case, the agent's proposal, your decision and your reason. Include an approval, a decline and an escalation.
- Certificate number and expiry. Certified Pryme Operator is valid for 12 months and can be checked by number or QR code.
- One paragraph on transferable study. What your degree trained you to do that a reviewer needs.

How do you use your degree without overstating it?
Pick the one or two habits that transfer, and name them exactly. A history graduate is trained to ask where a source came from and whether it can be trusted, which maps directly onto checking whether a fact reaching an agent is sealed or merely declared. A law graduate is trained to apply a rule to facts and give reasons. A science graduate is trained to doubt a result until it is checked.
Do not claim your dissertation was "AI work" unless it was. Employers notice. One sentence connecting a study habit to a practicum decision is worth more than a paragraph of claims.
What does this look like for one person?
Take an economics graduate we will call Chloe, who works weekends in a retail store while applying for operations roles at banks. Her module tests are set in retail, her own industry and role, so the cases are refunds, exchanges and stock adjustments she recognises.
Her portfolio shows the Foundations badge, two lab notes and eight practicum decisions. One is a refund she declined because the customer's receipt was declared, not matched to a sealed till record, and the amount was above the business's limit. Her study paragraph says econometrics taught her to check the data before trusting the conclusion. An employer can check her certificate at source and test her reasoning in an interview. It shows real decisions; it does not promise an offer.
How should a graduate present it to an employer?
Put the certificate number in your CV's qualifications section, next to your degree. Link the portfolio page from your CV and LinkedIn. In the cover letter, quote one decision in a sentence: what you saw, what you decided, and why. Graduate schemes often screen large volumes of applications, so a single specific decision stands out more than a list of modules.

Where the Academy fits
Pryme Intelligence Academy builds each part of this portfolio through the training itself. Lessons, labs and tests are free. If you have no job that uses Pryme, the practicum runs on a simulated queue in a free workspace. Certified Pryme Operator carries an issue fee, paid to be issued the certificate, never to pass, and is issued through VerifyDoc.ai.
Questions people ask
Should I do Operator before I graduate?
Foundations, yes: it is short and free. Operator is worth timing so the certificate is fresh when you apply, since it is valid for 12 months.
Is a simulated practicum taken seriously?
It is assessed to the same standard and signed off by a Pryme assessor. Be clear in interviews that it was simulated, and focus on your reasoning.
How do contractors and freelancers do it differently?
They have client work to draw on but often cannot share it. See how contractors build a trusted portfolio and how freelancers do it. The guide to AI skills for job seekers covers what employers ask for.
