Make source checking the centre of the rewrite. A paralegal CV for AI operations jobs should show the documents you reviewed, the facts and citations you checked back to source, and the privilege and relevance calls you referred to a lawyer. Firms using agents for first-pass review need people who refuse to trust an unsourced summary.
What does a law firm need from a paralegal when agents do the first pass?
Agents can read a disclosure set and tag documents as likely relevant, summarise a lease, extract key dates from contracts in a due diligence data room or draft a chronology from a bundle. That is the work paralegals spent long hours on. It is faster with an agent, and the risk moves to a different place.
The risk is a confident summary that is wrong. A clause described as a break option when it is a rent review. A date taken from a draft rather than the signed version. A document tagged not relevant because the agent missed a reference in a footnote. Governed agents are certified partly on being grounded, meaning every claim traces to a source, but the person reviewing still has to check that the source says what the summary claims. Paralegals already do this when they check a trainee's note against the document before it goes to a partner.
That habit is what to sell. The guide to the AI skills employers ask job seekers to prove calls it source checking; in legal work it is simply accuracy.
How do you rewrite the CV, step by step?
- You: read adverts for duties. "Legal operations analyst", "document review specialist", "legal technology paralegal" and "knowledge and review paralegal" overlap. Look for review, quality, escalation and exceptions.
- You: describe review as decisions (depth 1). Reading and tagging is depth 1 work for an agent. Your role is deciding whether the tag is right.
- You: describe drafting as drafts (depth 2). Chronologies, summaries and first-draft letters are written by an agent and checked and sent by a person. Say how you checked.
- You: name your referral points. Privilege, conflicts, anything that needs legal advice. Say you referred them, not decided them.
- You: show scale. The size of document sets you handled gives context.
- You: add a certificate with its number.
Which paralegal tasks sit at which depth?
| Paralegal task | The agent does | Depth | Stays with a person |
|---|---|---|---|
| Disclosure review | Tags documents as relevant or not | 1 | Sampling tags, deciding borderline documents |
| Privilege check | Flags possible privilege | 1 | The privilege decision, by a lawyer |
| Contract extraction | Pulls dates, parties and key clauses | 1 to 2 | Checking each against the signed version |
| Chronology | Drafts it from the bundle | 2 | Checking every entry to source |
| Standard letters | Drafts them from instructions | 2 | Fee earner approval and sending |
Notice that no row goes above depth 2. In most legal work, the agent reads and drafts, and people decide and send. That is not timidity; legal consequences are hard to undo, and firms answer for what leaves their name.
What do the rewritten lines look like?
Sample lines with invented figures:
- Before: "Assisted with disclosure." After: "Reviewed machine-tagged disclosure in a set of around 40,000 documents; sampled tags daily and corrected a recurring misclassification of board minutes."
- Before: "Prepared chronologies." After: "Checked drafted chronologies line by line against source documents; corrected dates taken from unsigned drafts."
- Before: "Conducted due diligence." After: "Extracted and verified key terms from 200 leases for a property acquisition; referred unusual clauses to the supervising solicitor."
The first line shows you improved the system, which is what reviewers are asked to do. For more lines, use the AI agent skills CV section for a paralegal, and see how a paralegal should show AI agent skills on a CV.
How do you show evidence an employer can check?
Three items carry weight: a certificate with a number, a supervising lawyer as referee, and one example of a catch you can describe without client detail.
List the certificate with credential, number and expiry. Anyone can check it at source by number or QR code, and a lapsed certificate shows as lapsed. It is a professional certificate, not a legal qualification and not a practising licence. It does not entitle you to give legal advice. It shows that you passed a written exam and made two weeks of review decisions to nineteen in twenty, with no missed red line.
What should you track, and where does it go wrong?
Track role type and response: legal operations, review teams, compliance support. If you want to see what else is open, the guide to what jobs a paralegal can get with AI agent skills maps the options.
Common mistakes:
- Naming review platforms. Say "an e-disclosure platform" and describe your decisions.
- Claiming legal judgement you did not exercise. Say "referred" where you referred.
- Leaving out sampling. Checking a sample of an agent's tags is a core skill. Show you did it.
- Not looking sideways. Fraud and HR roles value careful evidence review; see rewriting a fraud analyst CV and rewriting an HR coordinator CV.
Where the Academy fits
Pryme Intelligence Academy trains the review work described here, with module tests set in your own industry and role. Begin with the free Foundations badge; move on to Operator for evidence of review practice. Paralegals who want to design agents can later take the Builder track, which ends with an agent certified to depth 2 or higher.
Questions people ask
Will first-pass review agents replace paralegals?
They reduce the hours spent reading. Firms still need people who check the agent's work, handle borderline documents and know when to involve a lawyer.
Is a paralegal CV different from a legal secretary CV for these roles?
Yes. Paralegals lead with evidence review and drafting accuracy; legal secretaries lead with deadlines and document control. Both centre on checking.
Should I mention the practice areas I worked in?
Yes. Review roles are often tied to a practice area, and knowing the documents of that area is the domain knowledge an agent lacks.
