AI agent jobs and careers·Answer

What does an AI agent reviewer job look like for a former team leader?

A former team leader reviewing AI agents in a contact centre decides held credits, samples conversations like call listening and coaches the agent.

Think of call listening and floor management, applied to an agent instead of a team. In a telecoms contact centre, the agent handles billing questions, plan changes and fault reports. You decide what it holds, sample its conversations as you once scored calls, and turn patterns into changes in its instructions. Many end up leading the reviewers too.

What does the agent handle in a telecoms contact centre?

The work is the same mix your team handled. The agent answers billing questions from the account record, explains charges, changes plans within the rules, logs faults and books engineer visits, and processes standard goodwill credits within limits once certified.

Some requests it holds for a person: cancellations with early termination fees, disputes about charges, and any customer who appears vulnerable or distressed. Some it is refused by the company's limits altogether, such as waiving a contract term, or a credit above the limit, which it may only draft for a person.

How does reviewing compare with leading a team?

Team leader task Reviewer equivalent
Listening to calls and scoring them Sampling the agent's conversations against the quality standard
Approving credits an adviser asks for Deciding the credits the agent drafts and the cancellations it holds
Coaching an adviser after a bad call Writing a note that changes the agent's brief or sources
Watching the queue and service levels Watching hold times and how many items are declined
Escalating complaints to a manager Escalating incidents to the agent's owner
Running the daily huddle Running the review rhythm: queue, samples, patterns, handover

The main difference is that coaching an agent changes every future conversation at once. One good note is worth a hundred individual corrections.

What does a pattern look like from the reviewer's chair?

Take a reviewer we will call Aisha, a former team leader now leading four reviewers at a telecoms provider. Each item the agent issued was within its limits, so none reached the queue. But her weekly sample shows something: almost every customer who mentioned leaving received the largest retention discount the agent was allowed to give.

Nothing broke a rule. It was still a poor outcome, both for the business and for customers who would have stayed on a smaller offer or a better-fitting plan. Aisha writes it up with ten examples and takes it to the agent's owner. The owner narrows the company's limits so that the agent offers a plan review first and holds the largest discount for a person. A team leader would have spotted the same habit in a new adviser within a week.

What is recorded, and how are you judged?

Every verdict is filed in an append-only record: the agent's action, the sources it used, the verdict and which bound decided. Your decisions on held items go into the same record with your reasons. When a customer complains or a regulator asks how vulnerable customers are treated, the history is there.

Reviewers are judged on correct decisions and red lines not missed. If you lead reviewers, you are also judged on how consistently your team decides. The skills you used to calibrate scoring between team leaders apply directly.

What carries over, and what is new?

Your quality ear carries over: you know a technically correct answer that leaves the customer worse off. So do your calibration habits, your feel for queues and your instinct for when a customer needs a person. You are also practised at feedback that changes behaviour rather than blaming.

What is new is the vocabulary of governed agents: depth, provenance, the four verdicts, and certification that expires. You will learn that an agent earns its depth on the company's own past cases, and that a certification run that clears no depth drops it back to reading only the same day. Questions people ask

Will I still manage people?

Often, yes. Larger operations need reviewer team leads, and contact centres still have human advisers for complex calls. Some roles mix both.

Is reviewing agents less stressful than leading a team?

It is different. There are fewer people problems and more pattern problems. The accountability stays, because your name is on the decisions.

How do I show this on a CV?

Lead with quality, calibration and coaching outcomes, then show you understand how agents are bounded. The cover letter template for team leaders applying for AI operations jobs gives wording.
