AI agent jobs and careers·Answer

What does an AI agent reviewer job look like for a former virtual assistant?

A former virtual assistant reviewing AI agents checks the emails, bookings and payments an agent holds for clients, keeps clients apart and records why.

Much like your current work, with the agent doing the typing and you doing the deciding. The agent sorts inboxes, drafts replies, books travel and prepares invoices. You approve what it holds, especially anything that spends money, commits a client or speaks in their name. Each decision is recorded. Many virtual assistants already do this informally.

What does the agent do for a busy client?

For a small business owner or executive, an agent can triage the inbox, draft replies in the client's tone, keep the diary, book travel within a budget, chase unpaid invoices and pay routine supplier bills once they match an order. It works from the client's own documents, contacts and rules.

As with any governed agent, each capability needs its own depth, and the agent's depth is earned on the client's own past cases. Sorting email is reading. Drafting replies is depth 2, so you or the client sends them. Booking travel inside the travel rules may run at depth 3. Paying a bill moves money, so above a small limit it is refused: the agent may only draft it, and a person pays.

What do you approve, and what never reaches you?

  • Inbox sorting and calendar holds: the agent does these; you check a sample.
  • Replies to routine requests: the agent drafts; you approve anything going to a new contact or a key client.
  • Travel bookings within the client's rules: the agent books once certified; you handle changes and exceptions.
  • Supplier payments above the limit: drafted only; you make them, with the client where the client's limits say so.
  • Anything signed in the client's name, such as a contract or a formal letter: held for the client personally.
  • Sharing one client's information with another: refused, always. If you support several clients, their data and agents stay separate.

What does a payment catch look like?

Take a reviewer we will call Leah, a virtual assistant supporting three small business owners. One client's agent holds a supplier payment of 900. The invoice matches a purchase order and the supplier's bank details are on file, so the agent proposes paying it.

Leah checks the history. The client paid an invoice for the same goods, same amount, last month, under a different invoice number. The purchase order is the same one. She declines the payment, drafts a query to the supplier, and records her reason: duplicate of an invoice already paid against this order. Then she asks for the agent's checks to include previous payments against the same purchase order. It is the kind of catch a careful assistant makes every week; the difference is that it now changes the agent too.

What does the record do for you and your clients?

Every verdict is filed in an append-only record: the agent's proposal, the sources, your decision and your reason. If a client asks why a payment was not made or a reply was changed, you can show them. If you work freelance, that record is also your evidence of the value you add.

Reviewers are judged on decisions that stand up and red lines not missed, such as an email sent to the wrong person or a payment made twice. It is the standard you already hold yourself to; now it is visible.

Which virtual assistant skills carry over?

Most of them. You know each client's tone and preferences. You spot the email that needs a reply today. You keep confidential information apart between clients. You are good at checking before sending, and at telling a client "this one needs you".

What is new is the structure: depth, where each fact came from, and why one action is held while another is refused. The guide to AI agent jobs and careers explains the wider field. The reviewer job for a former administrative assistant covers the in-house version of the same work. The practical route is in how to move from virtual assistant to AI agent reviewer, and the next step in how to become an AI operations analyst as a former virtual assistant.

Questions people ask

Can a virtual assistant offer agent review as a service?

Some do, especially to small business owners who use agents but lack time to check them. Be clear about what you approve and what stays with the client, and keep each client's agent and data separate.

Will agents replace virtual assistants?

They take over typing, sorting and routine booking. Clients still need someone to check, decide the exceptions and keep things moving, and many prefer that someone to be a person they know.

How do I describe this to an employer?

List the decisions you made on a client's behalf and the checks you ran before sending or paying. The cover letter template for virtual assistants applying for AI operations jobs shows a structure.
