AI agent jobs and careers·Answer

What does an AI agent reviewer job look like for a former administrative assistant?

A former administrative assistant reviewing AI agents checks drafted letters, bookings, spend and requests the agent holds, and records a reason for each.

It looks like the checking half of your old job, without the typing. An agent drafts letters, books travel and rooms, answers staff questions and processes expenses. As a reviewer, you open what it holds or may only draft: spend above a limit, letters going to clients, unusual requests and anything sensitive. You approve, fix or escalate each one and write a short reason.

What does the queue hold in a professional services firm?

In a consultancy or accountancy firm, administrative agents usually cover several services. Your queue gathers their held items:

  • Travel bookings above the travel policy, or with odd routes.
  • Client letters and engagement documents drafted from templates, held because they leave the firm.
  • Expense claims outside policy: a client dinner over the limit, a missing receipt.
  • Diary conflicts involving partners or clients that the agent cannot resolve by rule.
  • Staff requests the agent should not answer alone, such as anything touching pay, health or a complaint.
  • Supplier requests, especially changes to bank details.

Which calls are yours?

You decide most items within the firm's rules. A partner's flight that costs more because the cheaper option arrives after the client meeting: you approve, with the reason. A letter with the wrong client entity name: you fix it. An expense claim for a team dinner above the limit: you check whether it was approved in advance.

Some calls go upward. Requests about pay, health or conduct go to HR. Supplier bank detail changes go to finance for a phone check, because an emailed request is external and cannot authorise a payment. Anything that sounds like a client complaint goes to the partner. Knowing which is which is half the job.

What does a day look like?

Take a reviewer we will call Marta, who was an administrative assistant to a team of partners for eight years. At 9am she has thirty held items. She clears the travel bookings first, because flights get dearer. Two letters have the wrong salutation for clients who prefer first names; she fixes them. One expense claim includes alcohol at a client event where the client is a public body with gift rules; she sends it to the risk team.

Mid-morning, a junior consultant asks the agent how to report feeling unsafe with a manager. The agent gives the policy and holds the conversation for a person. Marta routes it to HR straight away and notes the time. In the afternoon she reads back through the week's decisions and sees the agent holds every rail booking over a certain fare, even when the policy allows it. She tells the agent owner, who corrects the rule.

What goes on the record?

Each decision is filed: the agent's draft, its sources, your decision and your reason. Reasons should be short and specific: "Approved: later flight needed to attend client meeting at 4pm; partner confirmed." Your reasons are how the agent improves and how the firm shows who approved what.

What carries over, and what is new?

From your admin work New in the reviewer role
Knowing the partners, clients and their preferences Reading the agent's sources rather than starting from scratch
Travel and expense policy Writing a reason for every decision
Discretion with sensitive matters Routing by the firm's escalation rules, on record
Spotting what does not look right Reporting patterns so the agent's rules change

The biggest change is volume and variety. You see held items from many teams, not just your own partners.

Questions people ask

Do I lose the relationships I had as an assistant?

Partly. You work with more people but less closely. Some reviewers keep a small set of partners to support directly alongside the queue.

Is the reviewer role better paid?

That depends on the employer and the market, and nobody can promise it. Review roles often carry more responsibility, which is worth weighing.

What if I approve something the agent got wrong?

The record shows what happened, and the business learns from it. Careful checking and clear escalation rules make serious errors rare.
