AI agent skills by role·Definition

What is an agent reviewer?

An agent reviewer is the person who examines an AI agent's held work and decides to approve, edit or reject it. What the role involves day to day.

An agent reviewer is the person who works through an AI agent's held items and decides, for each one, whether to approve it, edit and approve it, reject it, or pass it to someone with more authority. Reviewers sit on a rota, work a queue, and are the point where most of the agent's consequential work meets human judgement.

Why does the reviewer role matter?

In a governed deployment, the reviewer is where control is exercised, case by case. The agent proposes; the reviewer disposes. If the reviewer approves without looking, the agent is in effect acting at a depth it was never certified for. The argument that the reviewer, not the agent, is the control is made in the reviewer is the control, not the agent.

The role is also where the agent improves. Every edit and rejection, recorded with a reason, shows the builder where the agent falls short.

What does a reviewer do day to day?

A reviewer's shift typically involves:

  • working the held queue, in an order that puts the riskiest items first;
  • for each item, reading the draft, the evidence and its provenance, and the bound that held it;
  • approving, editing, rejecting or escalating, with a reason when they change anything;
  • noticing patterns, such as the same correction repeated, and flagging them to the owner;
  • handing over to the next reviewer on the rota with anything left open.

The rota matters. Too few reviewers and the queue grows until people rush; too many and each sees too few items to stay sharp. Building one is covered for lending and credit teams.

What is an example?

A credit team's agent drafts decisions on limit increases and holds those above the customer's own limit or with declared income only. A reviewer starts her shift with fifteen held items. She sorts by value and evidence strength, starts with two large increases on declared income, requests verified income for both, approves four routine ones, edits one where the agent misread the applicant's existing exposure, and passes one to the credit manager because it exceeds her limit. At handover she notes the misread exposure to the owner, who asks the builder to check the source.

How is an agent reviewer different from an AI agent reviewer or an auditor?

The terms "agent reviewer" and "AI agent reviewer" refer to the same role; the fuller treatment, with the competence the role demands, is in what an AI agent reviewer is. This page focuses on the daily work.

A reviewer is different from a quality auditor, who samples completed decisions after the fact to check whether reviews were sound. The reviewer acts before anything happens; the auditor checks afterwards. A reviewer also differs from an approver in that approvers hold formal authority over specific higher-risk actions, though in small teams one person often does both.

Which terms are related?

  • Edit and approve: one of the reviewer's choices.
  • Rubber-stamping: the reviewer's characteristic failure.
  • Reviewer coaching: how leads help reviewers improve; see the reviewer coaching plan template.

Where the Academy fits

Certified Pryme Operator, from Pryme Intelligence Academy, is built for reviewers: about 14 hours across eight modules, including human review and reading the workspace, a written exam of 40 questions with a pass mark of 32, and a two-week practicum signed off by a Pryme assessor. It is valid for 12 months.

Questions people ask

How long should a reviewer spend on each item?

As long as the item needs. Routine items with strong evidence may take moments; high-value or poorly evidenced ones deserve minutes. Track time by item type, not as one average.

Should reviewers know who built the agent?

They should know who owns it and how to flag problems. Knowing the builder helps when patterns need explaining, but the owner is the reviewer's main contact.
