Training teams for AI agents·Definition

What is compliance training?

Compliance training teaches staff the rules their organisation must follow and records that they learned them. What it means once AI agents act for you.

Compliance training is training an organisation gives its staff so they understand and follow the laws, regulations and internal policies that apply to their work, with a record that each person completed it. Where AI agents act, it must also cover how agents are bounded, who approves their held actions and what the record shows.

Why does compliance training change when agents act?

Traditional compliance training assumes a person takes each action. The course explains the rule, the person applies it, and the completion record shows they were told. With an agent drafting or executing the work, the rule is applied twice: once by the agent's bounds and once by the person who reviews what the agent holds.

That second check only works if the reviewer knows what the agent was allowed to do. A compliance officer who cannot tell a held action from a refused one, or who does not know that a certificate lapses after 90 days, will sign off things they should have questioned.

What should compliance training cover for agent oversight?

The rule content stays. What gets added is the mechanics of how the rule reaches the agent:

  1. Depth: what the agent may do at each level, from reading to moving money.
  2. The minimum chain: the five bounds every action must meet, and how to read which bound decided.
  3. Verdicts: allowed, held, refused and withheld, and what each asks of a person.
  4. Provenance: why a fact from an emailed document cannot authorise a payment.
  5. The record: where every verdict is filed and how to reconstruct a decision.

In the EU, Article 4 of the EU AI Act asks providers and deployers to take measures for sufficient AI literacy among staff who deal with AI systems. Compliance training is often where organisations start meeting it.

What does it look like in practice?

Take a payments firm whose agent screens outgoing transfers. The annual sanctions course stays. A new module shows reviewers three held transfers from the agent's queue and asks them to decide, citing the bound that held each one. Completion means the person answered correctly, not just that they scrolled to the end.

A training plan template for compliance officers lays this out by week, and the guide on training the compliance team to review agent decisions covers the review skills in depth.

How is compliance training different from competence?

Compliance training proves a person was taught. Competence proves they can do the work to a standard. Many compliance programmes stop at completion and a short quiz. For reviewers of agent decisions, that is not enough, because the risk sits in the decisions they make on real items.

The practical test is the incident drill: can the team find, stop and explain a bad agent action under time pressure? A completion certificate cannot answer that.

Which related terms sit close to it?

  • Mandatory training: training the organisation requires, whether or not a law does.
  • AI literacy: the baseline understanding of how AI systems work and fail.
  • Reviewer onboarding: the first steps for a new reviewer, set out in a reviewer onboarding checklist for compliance teams.

Where the Academy fits

Pryme Intelligence Academy goes past completion. The Foundations track gives everyone the vocabulary in about four hours. Certified Pryme Operator adds a written exam and a two-week practicum of real review decisions, signed off by a Pryme assessor. Certificates are issued through VerifyDoc.ai, so a supervisor can check one at source.

Questions people ask

Does completing compliance training make someone a qualified reviewer?

No. It shows they were taught the rules. Qualification needs evidence from real decisions, such as a practicum marked against a standard.

How often should compliance training on agents be refreshed?

At least yearly, and whenever the agent's depth, sources or the product change in ways that alter what reviewers see.
