Training teams for AI agents·Definition

What is a seat licence?

A seat licence gives one named person access to a product or course. What a training seat should include for AI agent teams, and what it does not prove.

A seat licence is the right for one named person to use a product or service, counted per person rather than per organisation or per unit of usage. In training for AI agents, a seat usually gives one learner access to the lessons, practice and tests, and sometimes to the certificate at the end.

Why does a seat licence matter?

Seats decide who gets trained. When an organisation buys a fixed number of seats, someone has to choose who receives them, and the choice often follows seniority or availability rather than risk. The people who approve held actions every day can end up without a seat while managers who rarely touch the queue have one.

Seats also shape what training looks like. A seat that includes lessons but not assessment produces people who have seen the material. A seat that includes a certificate produces evidence of who can do the work, which is what an auditor or a risk owner will ask for.

What should a training seat include?

When comparing seats for agent oversight training, check four things:

  • Content: lessons and practice for the person's role, not a generic course.
  • Practice: hands-on work with the real product, not screenshots.
  • Assessment: tests that are set in the learner's work, and a certificate where the role needs one.
  • Visibility: a view for the administrator showing progress, results and expiry dates.

The first two keep the seat used. Short lessons and microlearning fit around a busy queue; revisiting key points through spaced repetition keeps them current. The last two make the seat count as evidence.

An example

A contact centre with forty advisers and six team leads plans to deploy an agent that drafts refund replies. Its first instinct is to give seats to the team leads. A risk owner points out that the people approving held refunds are the frontline staff. The centre reallocates: every reviewer gets a seat, and team leads keep theirs. The admin view then shows who has certified and whose certificate is due to expire, so the rota is built around it. Seats on their own do not train anyone, though; a shadow period on the live queue still follows.

How is a seat licence different from usage-based pricing?

A seat is counted per person, regardless of how much they use it. Usage-based pricing counts activity: actions taken, documents processed, hours run. Agent platforms often charge for usage; training is more often sold per seat. The difference matters for budgeting. Adding a reviewer costs a seat; adding a capability to an agent changes usage.

A seat licence is also not a qualification. Holding a seat says the person has access. Only an assessment shows they can do the work.

Which terms are related?

  • Certificate: the evidence a seat may lead to.
  • Learning record: what the person has done with the seat.
  • Admin view: where seats, progress and expiry are tracked.

Every refusal on the queue is a chance to use the seat well; see every refusal is a lesson for the team. For the wider approach, read training teams for AI agents.

Where the Academy fits

Seats in Pryme Intelligence Academy are included with paid Pryme Intelligence plans and include certificates for the people on them. An admin view shows each person's progress, results, certificates and expiry dates, so seat allocation can follow who approves what.

Questions people ask

Can seats be reassigned when someone leaves?

That depends on the provider's terms. Check whether certificates already earned stay with the person, which they should, since the certificate describes them, not the seat.

How many seats does a team need?

One for every person who reviews, approves or is accountable for an agent's work. Start from the review rota, not the org chart.
