Which rules shape oversight work in Ireland?
The EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) entered into force on 1 August 2024 and phases in over several years. AI used to decide admission to education, evaluate learning outcomes, assess the appropriate level of education or monitor students in tests is treated as high-risk. Providers using such systems are deployers under Article 26, must assign competent human oversight (Article 14), and public bodies may need a fundamental rights impact assessment under Article 27. Article 4 expects AI literacy among staff, and Article 50 requires people to be told when they interact with an AI system.
GDPR governs students' data, with specific protection for children, and the Data Protection Commission is the supervisory authority. Child protection procedures apply to anyone handling information about a child's welfare. What does a 90-day plan look like?
- Days 1 to 30. Earn the free Foundations badge. Write up ten assessment or communication decisions with your reasons.
- Days 31 to 60. Complete the Operator lessons, read or heard as audio, and sit the exam.

Where the Academy fits
