Australian employers usually expect a resume of two to three pages, in reverse date order, with a short career summary, key skills, experience written as achievements, and referees or a note that they are available. For AI operations roles, add the decisions you make, your red lines and a certificate an employer can check. Template and sample below.
What do Australian employers expect from a CV?
In Australia, "resume" and "CV" are used almost interchangeably for private sector jobs. A few conventions are widely followed:
- Length: two to three pages for most experienced candidates; shorter for graduates.
- Personal details: name, suburb or city, phone, email and a profile link. Photos, date of birth and marital status are not usually included.
- Work rights: if you are not a citizen or permanent resident, a line on your visa and work rights saves the employer asking.
- Career summary: three or four lines at the top, tailored to the role.
- Referees: many candidates list two referees with contact details; others write "available on request". Ask referees first.
- Tone: plain and direct. Achievements with concrete outcomes are expected; inflated claims are noticed.
These are common practice, not rules, and some employers or recruiters have their own preferences. Follow any instructions in the advert.
How do you adapt it for AI operations work?
AI operations roles in Australia, as elsewhere, carry many titles: reviewer, decision analyst, operations specialist, quality analyst. Read the duties and mirror them. If the advert mentions review, exceptions, approvals, quality or escalation, give each one a bullet with an example.
Australian financial services employers work under APRA's prudential standards, including CPS 230 on operational risk management, ASIC's conduct oversight and the Privacy Act 1988, which the OAIC administers. The government has also published a voluntary AI safety standard. If you have worked under these, one line naming the rule and what you did under it shows you understand the setting; do not list rules you have not applied. This is an explanation of the rules, not legal advice; confirm how they apply to you with counsel. Questions people ask
Should I use the word resume or CV in Australia?
Either is understood. Use the word the advert uses. The content and layout matter more than the label.
Should I include a cover letter?
Usually, yes, unless the advert says not to. Keep it to one page and use it to explain one decision you are proud of, which the resume can only list.
Does an AI operations certificate replace industry qualifications?
No. It shows you can oversee agent work, while industry qualifications show you know the rules of the work itself. List both where you hold them, and remember the Pryme Intelligence Academy Operator certificate is professional, not a government licence.
