Most US employers call it a resume and expect one page early in a career or two for experienced candidates, with no photo, date of birth or marital status. Lead with a short summary and mirror the advert's duties. For AI operations roles, add your decisions, red lines and a certificate an employer can check.
What do US employers expect from a resume?
American conventions are well established:
- Length: one page for early-career candidates, two for experienced ones.
- Personal details: name, city and state, phone, email and profile link. Photos, date of birth, marital status and similar details are left off.
- Summary: two to four lines at the top, tailored to the job.
- Experience: reverse date order, with bullets that start with a verb and show a result.
- Keywords: many employers screen applications with software first, so use the duty words from the advert where they truthfully describe your work.
- References: usually provided later in the process; the line "available upon request" is often omitted.
Follow any instructions in the advert, which always take priority.
How do you tailor it for AI operations roles?
US titles vary widely: operations analyst, reviewer, disputes analyst, trust and safety specialist, AI operations associate. Read the duties for review, exceptions, approvals, quality and escalation, and mirror the words.
There is no single federal AI law in the US. Oversight work is shaped by sector rules. In banking and lending, the OCC, Federal Reserve, FDIC and CFPB supervise firms, interagency guidance SR 11-7 covers model risk, and ECOA and Regulation B require specific reasons when credit is denied, including when a model is used. GLBA covers financial privacy, HIPAA covers health information, and state laws such as California's CCPA as amended by the CPRA add privacy duties. Colorado has passed an AI act aimed at high-risk systems making consequential decisions. The NIST AI Risk Management Framework is a voluntary reference many firms use. Name a rule only if you worked under it. This is an explanation of the rules, not legal advice; confirm how they apply to you with counsel.

Where the Academy fits
Pryme Intelligence Academy's Operator track includes a written exam of 40 questions in 60 minutes and a two-week practicum signed off by a Pryme assessor; people without a job that uses Pryme do the practicum on a simulated queue. The certificate is professional, not a state licence or regulatory approval, and anyone can check it at source.
Questions people ask
Should I write "CV" or "resume" in the US?
Write resume for most private sector jobs. CV in the US usually means a longer academic document, so use it only for academic or research roles.
How do I get past automated screening?
Use the advert's duty words where they truthfully describe your work, keep formatting simple, and avoid putting key information in tables or images that software may not read.
Should I list certificates before experience?
If a certificate is named in the advert, put it in the summary and again in its own section. Otherwise, experience usually comes first.
