How bank tellers can prepare for the AI operator exam

How bank tellers can prepare for the AI operator exam: an eight-week plan around shifts, module tests set in banking, question style and exam-day pacing.

Give yourself eight weeks around your shifts, at two to three hours a week. Complete Foundations, then the eight Operator modules, taking each module test in a banking setting. Lean on what the counter taught you about scams and identity, and spend extra time on reading the workspace and teaching the agent. The exam is forty questions in sixty minutes; thirty-two correct passes.

What does the exam ask, and what does a teller already know?

The written exam is the first half of Certified Pryme Operator, followed by a two-week practicum. It has 40 questions, 60 minutes and a pass mark of four in five. Questions are set as decisions: a held draft, a refusal, a source of doubtful origin, a spike in activity, and what you should do next. What is on the AI operator exam describes the format.

Tellers start with real strengths. You verify identity every day, you know how scams unfold, you recognise vulnerability, and you work within authority limits. Questions about whether a contact change should go through, whether an external letter proves anything, or whether a transfer should wait for someone senior will feel natural.

The harder areas are the ones that look at many cases at once rather than one customer: reading patterns across a workspace, fixing the cause of a repeated error, keeping the agent's sources current, and understanding what the business pays for. The guide to AI operator certification shows where all of this leads.

Which banking workflow do the questions assume?

Picture a servicing flow like this, and place each question on it.

Step The agent does Depth Stays with a person
Reading a request Reads the record and message 1 Judging whether the request fits the account's history
Contact change Drafts 2 Verification through a trusted channel
Card reorder to known address Completes within limits 3 Setting limits; sampling
New payee with a large transfer Prepares and holds 4, held Release by an authorised person
Request outside the agent's role Refuses, naming the bound none Routing to the right team
Reversing a settled payment on the bank's own rail Withheld none No agent at any depth

What does an eight-week plan look like around shifts?

  1. You, week 1: Foundations modules one to three, as audio on the way to work.
  2. You, week 2: Foundations modules four to six. Note how depth is earned on real cases and capped by the business's own limits.
  3. You, week 3: Operator: how a governed agent decides. Take the module test on a day off.
  4. You, week 4: human review, and when something goes wrong. These will feel closest to the counter.
  5. You, week 5: teaching the agent. Do the lab in a free Build workspace; the idea of changing a source rather than correcting a draft is new for most tellers.
  6. You, week 6: keeping knowledge current, and reading the workspace. Practise spotting a pattern, such as one type of request suddenly being held more often.
  7. You, week 7: usage and billing, and running the rhythm.
  8. You, week 8: retake every module test, review your wrong answers, then book the exam for a quiet day.

Lessons can be read or listened to, with highlights and notes, so the reading can fit into commutes and breaks. Keep tests and labs for screen time.

How should module tests be used?

Module tests are set in your own industry and role, so as a teller you will see servicing, payments and customer cases. Use them as practice exams. After each one, write a line for every wrong answer: the scenario, your choice, the right choice and why. By week eight you will have a short list of the reasoning you keep missing. Read it the night before the exam.

How should you approach exam day?

  • Budget ninety seconds per question. Move on from anything taking more than three minutes and return to it.
  • Ask what the question wants first. Read the last sentence before the scenario.
  • Check the provenance. A customer's message is declared, a third party's letter is external, the core record is sealed.
  • Look for the deciding bound. The verdict names the lowest of role scope, certificate, sources, the bank's own limits and platform guardrails.
  • Trust your counter instincts on fraud, but read every option. The right answer may be to hold and verify rather than reject outright.

Where do tellers lose marks?

  • Thinking only about the customer in front of them. Some questions ask about the whole queue or the agent's sources, not one case.
  • Choosing rejection when holding is right. Rejecting a genuine request harms the customer; holding for verification protects both.
  • Correcting drafts one at a time. If the same mistake appears in many drafts, the answer usually changes the agent's sources or brief.
  • Rushing usage and billing. It is a full module with its own questions.

Where the Academy fits

Pryme Intelligence Academy makes the whole preparation free: lessons, labs in a free Build workspace and module tests set in banking. You pay an issue fee only when a certificate is issued, never to sit or pass the exam.

Questions people ask

Do I need to work somewhere that uses Pryme?

No. You can study, take the exam and do the practicum on a simulated queue in a free workspace.

Is eight weeks too long?

Not for someone working shifts. If your hours are regular, five or six weeks can be enough. What matters is finishing every module before you book.

What happens after I pass the exam?

You move to the practicum: two weeks of review decisions, nineteen in twenty correct with no missed red line, signed off by a Pryme assessor.
