AI operator certification·Answer

What is on the AI operator exam?

What is on the AI operator exam? Forty scenario questions in sixty minutes, set as decisions rather than definitions, with a pass mark of four in five.

Forty questions in sixty minutes, and almost none of them ask you to define anything. Each sets out a situation in a live workspace, such as a held draft, a stale source or a spike in usage, and asks what you would do. The pass mark is four in five, or 32 correct answers. It tests judgement across the eight Operator modules.

How is the exam built?

The exam is the written half of Certified Pryme Operator; the other half is a two-week practicum of real review decisions. Questions are set as decisions, not definitions. Instead of "what does depth 2 mean?", expect "the agent has drafted this reply at depth 2 using this source; which of these actions is right?".

That format rewards people who understand why the system behaves as it does. Memorising terms will not get you far. Knowing why a draft is held, which source is stronger, and who should decide will.

What topics does it cover?

The questions draw on the eight Operator modules. Here is what each one tends to test, with an illustrative style of question rather than a real one.

Module What it tests Illustrative question style
How a governed agent decides Depth, bounds and the four verdicts Why was this action refused rather than held?
Human review Deciding whether a draft may stand The draft is accurate but cites an unverified source; what now?
Teaching the agent Fixing the cause, not the symptom The same error appears in five drafts; what do you change?
Reading the workspace Seeing patterns Holds have tripled on one capability; what do you check first?
Keeping knowledge current Source upkeep A policy changed yesterday; which agents are affected?
When something goes wrong Incidents A wrong payment draft reached a customer; what are the first steps?
Usage and billing What the business pays for Usage doubled overnight; what might explain it?
Running the rhythm The daily and weekly routine Which of these tasks comes first on a Monday?

What does a typical question feel like?

Here is an invented example in the exam's style. An agent at a lender has drafted a reply agreeing to waive a late fee. The customer's email says a branch adviser promised the waiver. The fee policy allows waivers only with a note on the account, and there is none. What do you do?

The options might include approving the draft because the customer is probably honest, rejecting it outright, holding it and asking the branch to confirm, or editing it to a partial waiver. The best answer turns on provenance: the customer's claim is declared, not verified, and the account record is the stronger source. You hold and check. Several options sound reasonable; only one follows the logic of the system.

How should you pace it?

Sixty minutes for forty questions is a minute and a half each. Some scenarios take thirty seconds; a few take three minutes. Do not let one hard question cost you two easy ones. Answer what you can, mark what you cannot, and return.

How to pass the AI operator exam first time covers timing and preparation in more depth, and an operator exam study plan template gives you a weekly structure.

What is not on it?

No coding, no model theory and no questions about building agents, which belong to the Builder track. No questions about specific laws in detail, though you will need to recognise when a decision touches a rule and route it. Role-specific preparation helps: how operations coordinators can prepare for the AI operator exam and how collections agents can prepare show how different backgrounds approach the same questions.

Where the Academy fits

Pryme Intelligence Academy keeps the module tests free and sets them in your own industry and role, which makes them the best practice for the exam's decision questions. Labs in a free Build workspace let you see the situations the questions describe before you meet them under time.

Questions people ask

What happens if I do not pass?

You lose no fee and nothing is published. You prepare and retake it. What happens if you fail the operator exam explains how to use the result.

Is the exam enough to be certified?

No. You also need the two-week practicum, signed off by a Pryme assessor. The guide to AI operator certification covers both.

Do I need to memorise terms?

You need to understand them well enough to apply them. A question will rarely ask what "withheld" means, but it may ask you to recognise a withheld action and know that no one at your level can override it.
