What skills and certificate do Irish employers look for?
Irish employers often use competency-based interviews, so prepare stories: a time you redesigned a process, caught a control gap, or wrote a procedure others relied on. For builder roles, add a walk-through of your capstone: brief, sources, test set, failures and fixes.

Which rules shape a builder's work in Ireland?
The EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) entered into force on 1 August 2024 and phases in over several years. Where an organisation provides a high-risk system, Articles 9 to 15 set requirements on risk management, data governance, record-keeping, transparency, human oversight and accuracy; builders produce much of that evidence. Article 4 expects AI literacy among staff, and Article 26 sets deployer duties.
GDPR applies to the personal data in cases and test sets, and the Data Protection Commission supervises it in Ireland. Article 35 data protection impact assessments are common before agents go live. The Central Bank of Ireland supervises banks, insurers, fund service providers and payment firms, and DORA (from 17 January 2025) sets ICT risk, incident reporting, resilience testing and third-party requirements for them. What should your 90 days look like?
Days 1 to 30. Earn the free Foundations badge and start Operator. Choose one process and write it as an agent brief, listing the sources by provenance: sealed, signed, declared or external.
Days 31 to 60. Finish Operator, with the practicum on a simulated queue if your employer does not use Pryme. Build a test set of 40 to 60 de-identified cases with correct answers, including the awkward ones.
Days 61 to 90. Complete Builder and certify your capstone in a free Build workspace. Write a two-page design note. Questions people ask
Is funds experience an advantage?
Yes, for funds employers. Transfer agency and fund accounting are rules-heavy and document-heavy, which is where builders with process knowledge add most.
Do I need European languages?
Not always, but they help where agents answer customers across Europe. You must be able to judge answers in each language you test.
Can contractors do builder work?
Some firms hire builders on contract for a programme of agents. Check who will own and recertify the agents after you leave.
