Two more tracks: Builder, then Architect. Builder is for people who design, train and certify agents, and ends with an agent you have certified yourself. Architect is for people who lead regulated deployments with several agents, and ends with a board review. Neither is compulsory; many people stay operators and simply renew each year.
What does each track involve?
The four tracks form a ladder, and each is the key to the next. Here is how the two beyond Operator compare.
| Builder | Architect | |
|---|---|---|
| Who it is for | Whoever designs, trains and certifies agents | People who lead regulated, multi-agent deployments |
| Study time | About 24 hours | About 30 hours |
| Assessment | A capstone agent certified in Attest to depth 2 or higher | A written design and a board review with two Pryme assessors |
| Credential | Certified Pryme Builder | Certified Pryme Architect |
| Valid for | 12 months | 24 months |
An operator decides whether an agent's work may stand. A builder decides what the agent is told, what sources it reads, what it may do and how it proves it. An architect decides how several agents, teams and controls fit together in an organisation that answers to a regulator.
What roles does Builder lead to?
Look for adverts whose duties include writing or maintaining agent instructions, choosing and curating the sources an agent reads, setting the limits it works within, and assembling the real cases it is tested against. Titles vary widely: you may see agent builder, automation designer, knowledge lead, AI operations specialist or process designer.
The capstone is the proof. You build an agent and certify it in Attest, which replays it against real cases and scores every answer. Reaching depth 2 or higher means the agent may at least draft work for a person to send. That gives an employer something concrete: not a description of what you could build, but an agent that passed.
What roles does Architect lead to?
Architect suits people who own agent use across a function or a business: an AI operations lead, a head of automation in a bank or insurer, a governance lead who must explain to a supervisor how decisions are controlled. The work is design and accountability more than daily review.
The assessment reflects that. You write a design for a regulated deployment and defend it before two Pryme assessors. The credential is valid for 24 months, and like the others it lapses unless it is kept current.
How do you know when to move on?
Take an operator we will call Nadia at a regional insurer. After a year reviewing a claims agent, she notices that most of her corrections are not to individual decisions but to the agent's instructions and sources. She is already doing part of a builder's work without the training or the credential. That is the signal: when your review work keeps pointing upstream, Builder is the natural next step.
The opposite signal matters too. If you enjoy the daily rhythm of review and your team needs a steady, certified reviewer, stay. A current operator certificate held for several years shows consistency, and renewal is an update module and a short quiz.
What should you do first?
Get the operator certificate issued, if you have not already; requesting your operator certificate after the practicum covers that step. Then build a record of decisions and corrections in a live or simulated workspace, because Builder assumes you know what good review looks like.
If you are still at the start, how to get an AI operator certificate sets out the earlier steps, and people coming back to work after time away may want to read which AI certificate people returning to work after a break should start with. The guide to AI operator certification explains what the operator certificate proves.
Where the Academy fits
Pryme Intelligence Academy keeps lessons, labs and tests free on every track, and Builder labs run in a free Build workspace, so you can try design work before you commit. Each professional certificate carries an issue fee, paid only when it is issued. All are checkable at source through VerifyDoc.ai.
Questions people ask
Can I skip Operator and start with Builder?
No. Each track is the key to the next. A builder who has never reviewed an agent's live decisions tends to design agents that are hard to review.
Is Builder a technical track?
It asks you to design and certify agents, not to write models. The skills are closer to process design and testing than to programming.
Is a Builder certificate the same as a course completion?
No. A certificate of completion says you finished. Builder requires an agent that passed certification, which is why it counts as a career credential rather than a course.
