AI operations jobs in insurance in Ireland

AI operations jobs in Irish insurance: agent oversight roles in claims and servicing, what insurers want, Central Bank of Ireland rules, and a plan.

Irish insurers, from domestic motor and home insurers to international life and specialty firms based in Dublin, are using AI agents in claims, policy servicing and underwriting support. They need agent reviewers, AI operations analysts, knowledge owners and quality leads. You get hired by showing claims judgement, care for customers and evidence of review skill employers can check.

How does insurance work in Ireland break down?

Ireland has two insurance sectors. The domestic market sells motor, home, health and life cover to Irish customers, and claims teams spend much of their time on motor damage, personal injury elements of motor claims, household water and storm damage, and health insurance claims. The international sector, centred on Dublin, includes life insurers, reinsurers and specialty insurers serving customers across the EU from Ireland, often in several languages.

Operations roles in both include claims handling, policy administration, underwriting support, complaints and customer service. Personal injury claims follow their own process, and handlers need to know when a claim must leave the insurer's routine flow.

What do agents do, and how far may they act?

Agents take the reading, sorting and drafting; people keep decisions about cover and payment.

  • Claims notification (depth 3). The agent opens a motor or home claim, collects details and arranges an assessor. Mention of injury moves the claim to a person straight away.
  • Small claims settlement (depth 3 within limits). Windscreen and minor household claims under the insurer's limit are settled. Larger claims, coverage questions and declines are held for a named handler.
  • Policy servicing (depth 2 to 3). The agent processes routine changes and drafts renewal explanations. Premium complaints go to a person.
  • Multilingual correspondence (depth 2). In international firms, the agent drafts replies in the policyholder's language for a reviewer fluent in it.
  • Underwriting data gathering (depth 1). The agent collects and summarises information for an underwriter.

Every verdict is filed in an append-only record, so a complaint can be answered with the exact reason a claim was held or paid.

Which AI operations roles can you apply for?

Irish adverts use varied titles: "claims automation specialist", "operations analyst (AI)", "quality and conduct analyst", "policy servicing team lead". Read the duties for review, exceptions, approvals, quality and escalation.

Agent reviewer. Clears the held queue of claims, declines and policy changes.

AI operations analyst. Finds where the agent holds too often, for example after a storm, and proposes changes.

Knowledge owner. Keeps policy wordings, claims guidance and letters current.

Quality and conduct lead. Samples decisions against consumer protection standards and reports trends.

The guide to the new AI operations jobs in insurance covers these roles in more depth.

What do Irish insurers look for, and how do you show it?

Insurers want people who decide claims fairly against the wording, explain decisions in plain English, spot customers in vulnerable circumstances, and know when to escalate. For international firms, a second EU language is a strong advantage.

Show it with evidence: anonymised claims you handled, complaints you resolved, and a decision log from a simulated review queue, plus a professional certificate employers can check at source. Many insurance roles in Ireland also expect or support a recognised insurance qualification. The CV template for AI operations jobs in Ireland shows how to lead with review evidence.

Which rules shape oversight work in Irish insurance?

The Central Bank of Ireland supervises insurers both prudentially and for conduct, and its consumer protection requirements shape how claims are handled and communicated. EIOPA coordinates insurance supervision at EU level. DORA (Regulation (EU) 2022/2554), applicable from 17 January 2025, requires insurers to manage ICT risk, incidents, testing and third-party providers, which covers agent platforms.

The EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) entered into force on 1 August 2024. Annex III lists risk assessment and pricing for life and health insurance as high-risk, so Article 14 human oversight and Article 26 deployer duties apply where AI is used for those purposes. Article 4 asks deployers to ensure AI literacy among staff.

GDPR governs all policyholder data, with health data in life and health insurance treated as special-category data. The Data Protection Commission enforces it. Article 22 restricts decisions based solely on automated processing with significant effects, so declines need a person.

Questions people ask

Is motor claims experience relevant?

Yes. Motor claims combine damage, liability and sometimes injury, so handlers already practise the triage and escalation that reviewing an agent requires.

Do international insurers in Dublin hire for this?

Yes, especially for multilingual review of correspondence and claims. Language skills plus oversight evidence make a strong case.

Does a professional certificate replace insurance exams?

No. It shows you can review agent decisions to a standard. Insurance qualifications show product and technical knowledge. Employers value both.
