How to rewrite a KYC analyst CV for AI operations jobs

Rewrite a KYC analyst CV for AI operations jobs in retail banking: show how you weigh evidence by source, approve files and escalate, with a certificate.

Write your KYC experience in the language of provenance. A KYC analyst CV for AI operations jobs should show how you weighed documents by their source, which onboarding files you approved, which you sent for enhanced due diligence and why. Retail banks running onboarding agents want reviewers who already know a declared fact from a verified one.

Why does KYC work translate so directly?

An onboarding agent in a retail bank gathers the customer's identity documents, runs screening, checks the address, reads the source of funds declaration and drafts a risk summary. For low-risk files within the bank's limits it may complete routine steps. For anything else it holds the file for a person. That person is a KYC analyst.

The core of the review is weighing evidence, and governed systems name the weights. Every fact reaching an agent arrives stamped with where it came from. Sealed facts come from the system of record itself, such as the bank's own ledger. Signed facts come from a named, identifiable party that answers for them, such as a verified document issuer. Declared facts are stated by the customer and unverified. External facts arrived from outside, such as a forwarded email or a web page. You already work this way when you treat a customer's statement about their income differently from a payslip you have verified with the employer.

That is why you should put provenance on your CV in so many words. The guide to the AI skills employers ask job seekers to prove calls it source checking. In KYC it is the whole job.

What are the steps to rewrite the CV?

  1. You: describe your files by risk tier. Standard, enhanced and high-risk files call for different evidence. Say which you handled.
  2. You: show your evidence weighing (depth 1). Reading and screening are depth 1 for an agent. Your value is the decision about whether the evidence is enough.
  3. You: show your risk summaries (depth 2). Drafted risk assessments need a person to check them. Say what you looked for.
  4. You: show your approvals within limits (depth 3). If you had sign-off on standard files, say so and state the limit.
  5. You: show your escalations. Politically exposed persons, adverse media, unclear source of wealth. Say who you escalated to.
  6. You: add a certificate with its number.

Which KYC tasks map to agent depth?

KYC task The agent does Depth Stays with a person
Identity and address checks Reads documents and matches data 1 Documents that look altered or do not match
Sanctions and PEP screening Runs the screen and lists hits 1 Deciding whether a hit is a true match
Source of funds Reads the declaration and supporting documents 1 to 2 Judging whether declared funds are evidenced
Risk summary Drafts the assessment 2 Agreeing the risk rating
Standard file approval Completes routine steps within the bank's limits 3 Any file with a hit, gap or higher risk

Interviewers often test the third row. A strong answer explains that a declared source of funds is a claim, not evidence, and that the file waits until something stronger supports it.

What do the rewritten lines look like?

Sample lines with invented figures:

  • Before: "Completed KYC checks on new customers." After: "Reviewed around 25 onboarding files a day across standard and enhanced tiers; approved within my sign-off limit and escalated files with screening hits or unsupported source of funds."
  • Before: "Performed sanctions screening." After: "Resolved screening hits as true or false matches using verified identifiers; documented the reasoning for every discount."
  • Before: "Conducted periodic reviews." After: "Refreshed high-risk customer files on schedule; identified changes in ownership and escalated two for enhanced due diligence."

The second line contains the habit employers value most: writing down why. For more, adapt the AI agent skills CV section for a KYC analyst, or use the AI operations analyst CV template for layout. The shorter guide on how a KYC analyst should show AI agent skills on a CV covers placement.

How do you make the CV checkable?

Name the standard you worked to. The FATF Recommendations set the international standard for anti-money laundering, built on a risk-based approach and customer due diligence. Saying you applied a risk-based approach, and showing how, is enough.

Then list the certificate: credential, number and expiry. An employer can check it at source by number or QR code, and a lapsed certificate shows as lapsed. It is a professional certificate, not a regulatory approval or a licence. It shows you passed a written exam and made two weeks of review decisions to nineteen in twenty, with no missed red line. In KYC, approving a file with an unresolved sanctions hit would be a red line.

What should you measure, and where does it go wrong?

Track responses by role type. KYC operations, financial crime operations and AI operations roles all want your skills; if one replies more, lead with what it asked for.

Common mistakes:

  • Listing screening products. Name the check, not the vendor.
  • Not separating tiers. Enhanced due diligence experience is more valuable; make it visible.
  • Leaving out discounted hits. Clearing false matches with good reasons is skilled work. Say how you did it.
  • Missing the neighbouring routes. Compliance and fraud roles overlap with yours; see rewriting a compliance analyst CV and rewriting a fraud analyst CV.

Questions people ask

Will onboarding agents replace KYC analysts?

They take on reading, matching and screening. The decisions on files with gaps, hits or higher risk stay with people, and those are the files that need experienced analysts.

Should I mention the anti-money laundering rules I worked under?

Briefly. "Worked to the bank's customer due diligence procedures under a risk-based approach" is accurate and safe. Avoid quoting rules you cannot explain.

What if I only handled standard-risk files?

Say so, and describe the escalations you made. Knowing what to pass up is evidence of judgement in itself.
