AI agent jobs and careers·Answer

How can an administrative assistant move into AI operations?

Administrative assistants already triage, draft and check. Here is how to move into reviewing AI agents in professional services, and the roles to target.

Start with the work you already do: triaging requests, drafting documents, checking details and knowing what to escalate. In professional services firms, AI agents now draft letters, file documents and answer routine client queries. Someone must review what they hold back and own their quality. Learn how governed agents work, get a checkable certificate, and target review roles first.

What does an administrative assistant already bring?

In a law, accounting or consulting firm, an assistant's day is full of quiet judgment.

  • Confidentiality. You know which client documents must never go to whom, and that a misdirected email can be a serious breach.
  • Triage. You know which messages need a partner today and which can wait.
  • Drafting standards. You know the firm's house style and when a letter is fit to send.
  • Deadline sense. You track filings, renewals and meeting prep, and you know what happens if one slips.

Agents struggle most with exactly these points: who should see what, what is urgent, and when something is good enough.

How does the work change when agents arrive?

Task The agent You
Inbox triage Reads and sorts at depth 1 Check urgent items were spotted
Drafting routine letters Drafts at depth 2 Approve, edit or reject before sending
Filing documents to the right matter Acts within limits at depth 3 Sample filings for errors
Sending to a new recipient or outside the firm Held for a named person Confirm recipient and content
Anything touching a conflict or privileged material Refused or held Decide or escalate to the responsible partner

In a governed system, every verdict is filed, so when a draft is held or refused, the record shows which bound stopped it: the agent's role scope, its certificate, its sources, the firm's own limits or the platform guardrails. Learning to read that is part of the job.

What should you learn?

First, the core ideas: depth, the four verdicts, and provenance, the stamp on each fact showing where it came from. A client's instruction in an email is declared, not verified; the firm's matter system is the sealed record. Second, how to write a reason that helps the agent's owner fix a pattern. Third, how to spot drift: when the agent starts getting something wrong that it used to get right.

What does the move look like for one person?

Take an assistant we will call Grace at a mid-sized law firm that brings in an agent to draft routine client update letters. Grace reviews the drafts for her team. In her first month she notices the agent addressing letters using contact details from old emails rather than the firm's client record, which had been updated after a client moved. She flags it; the owner changes the agent's sources so the client record always wins. The firm then asks Grace to review drafts across three teams.

The skill that got her there was not technical. It was knowing which source of truth the firm relies on and noticing when the agent used a weaker one.

Which jobs should you apply for first?

Titles vary, so read the duties. Look for review of drafted correspondence, document quality, exceptions, approvals and escalation. Likely titles include operations assistant, practice support reviewer, knowledge and quality assistant, or AI operations analyst. In some firms, the role sits within practice management or the knowledge team.

Where the Academy fits

Pryme Intelligence Academy's Foundations course is free and takes about four hours. The Operator track follows, with module tests set in professional services and your own role, so you practise on letters, filings and client queries rather than generic examples. The two-week practicum runs on your employer's workspace or a simulated queue. Certified Pryme Operator can be shared to LinkedIn and checked by anyone through VerifyDoc.ai.

Questions people ask

Is my role going to disappear?

Parts of it will shrink, especially routine drafting and filing. Judgment about confidentiality, urgency and quality stays with people, and that is the part to grow.

Should I ask my firm before training?

Yes. Firms introducing agents often need reviewers who already know their clients and style. Asking can put you first in line.

Do I need a legal or accounting qualification?

Not for review roles. A qualification helps if you want to move into fee-earning or technical work later, but it is not needed to review an agent's drafts.
